Organizations Filed Purposes: THE WILTON LAND CONSERVATION TRUST (THE LAND TRUST) ENGAGES IN AND PROMOTES FOR PUBLIC BENEFIT THE PRESERVATION AND CONSERVATION OF NATURAL RESOURCES IN THE TOWN OF WILTON, INCLUDING WATER RESOURCES, WOODLANDS, MEADOWS, LAND OF HISTORIC AND AESTHETIC SIGNIFICANCE, AND ALL PLANT AND ANIMAL LIFE SUSTAINED BY OUR NATIVE ECOSYSTEMS. THE LAND TRUST PROMOTES THE SCIENTIFIC STUDY OF LOCAL PLANTS, ANIMALS, BIRDS, AND OTHER WILDLIFE, AND ACTIVELY COOPERATES WITH THE TOWN PLANNING AND ZONING, INLAND WETLAND AND CONSERVATION COMMISSIONS.

THE MISSION OF THE LAND CONSERVATION TRUST IS TO PRESERVE OPEN SPACES. THIS ENCOMPASSES MEADOWS, WOODLANDS SWAMPS AND WATERWAYS IN THE TOWN OF WILTON, CT.

WLCT WAS PRESENTED WITH THE OPPORTUNITY TO PURCHASE A 13-ACRE MEADOW AND FORESTED WETLAND CLOSE TO WILTON CENTER-ONE OF THE LAST SIGNIFICANT OPEN SPACES IN TOWN. THE WLCT THEREFORE ENTERED INTO A PURCHASE AGREEMENT TO ACQUIRE THIS LAND AS OPEN SPACE WITH A SCHEDULED CLOSING IN MAY 2020. SEEKING OWNERSHIP OF THIS PROPERTY PERFECTLY ALIGNS WITH OUR MISSION; THEREFORE, WE HAVE SET OUT TO RAISE $2.3 MILLION NEEDED FOR THE PURCHASE AND TO READY IT FOR PUBLIC ACCESS-AGOAL WE MUST REACH BY SPRING 2020 OR LAND WILL REVERT TO THE SELLER FOR DEVELOPMENT. IF SUCCESSFUL IN OBTAINING OWNERSHIP WLCT INTENDS IS TO OPEN IT TO THE CITIZENS OF WILTON AS AN EDUCATIONAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL RESOURCE. IN PARTNERSHIP WITH AN ABUTTING LAND TRUST, WE SEEK PRESERVATION OF AN INTACT FOREST BLOCK SPANNING THE WILTON/WESTON BORDER. THE GOAL IS TO PROTECT MORE THAN 340-ACRES OF RARE AND RESILIENT HABITAT ADJACENT TO OVER 2,100 ACRES OF ALREADY PROTECTED LAND. WORK CONTINUES ON THE NEW NORTH WILTON TRAIL THAT WILL CONNECT EXISTING PROTECTED OPEN SPACES AND EVENTUALLY TRAVERSE A ROUTE FROM RTE.33 IN RIDGEFIELD EAST TO THE CORRIDOR FOR THE FUTURE EXPANSION OF THE NORWALK RIVER VALLEY TRAIL. STEWARDSHIP OF OUR PARCELS WAS ACCELERATED WITH A SERIES OF WELL-ATTENDED VOLUNTEER WORK DAYS IN SPRING AND FALL AT THE WALTER PRESERVE, TIP CANYON PRESERVE AND SLAUGHTER FIELD PRESERVE.

AWARDED A SCHOLARSHIP TO A GRADUATING WILTON HIGH SCHOOL SENIOR IN RECOGNITION OF THEIR SERVICE TO COMMUNITY IN ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCE AND ECOLOGY.
