Organizations Filed Purposes:
The Wolcott Land Conservation Trust, a volunteer, community-based nonprofit organization, acquires and preserves open space and natural habitats to sustain the rural character of Wolcott. Our properties provide opportunities for education, recreation and appreciation of natural spaces.
The Wolcott Land Conservation Trust benefits the residents of the town of Wolcott by preserving open space and allowing for its accessibility to Wolcott and it's surrounding area's benefit. We have been working on one of our recently aquired properties to mark its borders and are beginning to establish a walking trail for public enjoyment and to possibly connect to other trails in existence. The legal fees below are the final expenses for the acquisition of this property.
We support the local high school by giving a scholarship each year and work with local high school students offering volunteer opportunities for them to learn about and assist in the maintenance of our properties. Our president speaks at this event to create awareness for our land trust and what we offer to the community and town of wolcott.
The Wolcott Land Conservation Trust has been working in conjunction with the town of Woloctt and the Hitchcock Lake Association on research of the maintenance of one of our properties, which has a dam. We are in the process of studying our options for the updating of this dam to prevent future issues in the opening and closing of the gates for the lake. This could involve significant expenses in the future. We work in conjunction with the Hitchcock Lake Improvement Association, which leases the lakes from us and oversees the activities on the lake and its community. The Lake association also reinburses the wolcott land conservation trust for some of the insurance expenses it incurs.
