Organizations Filed Purposes:
TO SAFEGUARD OUR SHARED CULTURAL HERITAGE FROM CRIME, CONFLICT, AND TERRORISM.
TO PROTECT OUR SHARED HERITAGE AND GLOBAL SECURITY, THE ANTIQUITIES COALITION IS LEADING THE INTERNATIONAL CAMPAIGN AGAINST CULTURAL RACKETEERING, THE ILLICIT TRADE IN ANCIENT ART AND ARTIFACTS. WE CHAMPION BETTER LAW AND POLICY, FOSTER DIPLOMATIC COOPERATION, AND ADVANCE PROVEN SOLUTIONS WITH PUBLIC AND PRIVATE PARTNERS WORLDWIDE. WE ARE WORKING TOWARDS A FUTURE WHEN THE PAST IS PRESERVED FOR THE NEXT GENERATION, NOT LOOTED, SMUGGLED, AND SOLD TO FINANCE CRIME, CONFLICT, AND TERROR.
CLOSING U.S. BORDERS TO ILLICIT ANTIQUITIES - THE UNITED NATIONS HAS LONG RECOGNIZED THAT THE ILLEGAL TRADE IN CULTURAL PROPERTY UNDERMINES "INTERNATIONAL PEACE AND SECURITY" BY FUNDING CRIME, ARMED CONFLICT, AND VIOLENT EXTREMISM. SINCE THE UNITED STATES MAKES UP 42% OF THE GLOBAL ART MARKET, WASHINGTON CAN DEAL AN EFFECTIVE BLOW AGAINST THE OVERALL BLACK MARKET BY CLOSING THE COUNTRY'S BORDERS TO ALL PRODUCTS OF CRIME AND CONFLICT. FROM OUR START, A KEY PRIORITY HAS BEEN SHUTTING U.S. BORDERS TO ILLICIT ANTIQUITIES, WHILE INCREASING RESPONSIBLE CULTURAL EXCHANGE AND TRADE PRACTICES.
ADVOCACY AND PUBLIC OUTREACH -THE ANTIQUITIES COALITION IS DEDICATED TO BUILDING AND CHANNELING THE POLITICAL AND PUBLIC WILL TO COMBAT LOOTING. WE DO THIS BY RAISING AWARENESS OF CRIMES AGAINST CULTURE, WHILE CHAMPIONING BETTER LAW AND POLICY TO KEY DECISION MAKERS. THIS ADVOCACY AND OUTREACH SERVES TO SUPPORT AND AMPLIFY ALL OF OUR OTHER PROGRAMS.
THINK TANK:IN 2016, WE LAUNCHED THE ANTIQUITIES COALITION THINK TANK, JOINING FORCES WITH INTERNATIONAL EXPERTS, INCLUDING LEADERS IN THE FIELDS OF PRESERVATION, BUSINESS, LAW, SECURITY, AND TECHNOLOGY. TOGETHER, WE ARE BRINGING HIGH-QUALITY AND RESULTS-ORIENTED RESEARCH TO THE WORLD'S DECISION MAKERS, ESPECIALLY THOSE IN THE GOVERNMENT AND PRIVATE SECTORS. OUR GOAL IS TO STRENGTHEN POLICYMAKERS' UNDERSTANDING OF THE CHALLENGES FACING OUR SHARED HERITAGE AND MORE IMPORTANTLY, HELP THEM DEVELOP BETTER SOLUTIONS TO PROTECT IT.
