Organizations Filed Purposes: THE AAVMC PROVIDES LEADERSHIP FOR AND PROMOTES EXCELLENCE IN ACADEMIC VETERINARY MEDICINE TO PREPARE THE VETERINARY WORKFORCE WITH THE SCIENTIFIC KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED TO MEET SOCIETAL NEEDS THROUGH THE PROTECTION OF ANIMAL HEALTH, THE RELIEF OF ANIMAL SUFFERING, THE CONSERVATION OF ANIMAL RESOURCES, THE PROMOTION OF PUBLIC HEALTH, AND THE ADVANCEMENT OF MEDICAL KNOWLEDGE.THE AAVMC PURSUES ITS MISSION BY PROVIDING LEADERSHIP IN:- ADVOCATING ON BEHALF OF ACADEMIC VETERINARY MEDICINE;- SERVING AS A CATALYST AND CONVENER ON ISSUE OF IMPORTANCE TO ACADEMIC VETERINARY MEDICINE;- PROVIDING INFORMATION, KNOWLEDGE, AND SOLUTIONS TO SUPPORT MEMBER'S WORK; - FACILITATING ENROLLMENT IN VETERINARY MEDICAL SCHOOLS AND COLLEGES; AND- BUILDING GLOBAL PARTNERSHIPS AND COALITIONS TO ADVANCE OUR COLLECTIVE GOALS.

EDUCATION AND RESEARCH: UNDER EDUCATION AND RESEARCH, THE RESPONSIBILITY OF PREPARING NEW GENERATIONS OF VETERINARIANS TO CARE FOR PEOPLE AND ANIMALS IN A RAPIDLY CHANGING WORLD DEMANDS EDUCATIONAL EXCELLENCE. THE AAVMC'S MEMBER INSTITUTIONS DEVELOP CURRICULA THAT RESPOND TO CHANGING ENVIRONMENTS AND PREPARE STUDENTS FOR PROFESSIONAL SUCCESS IN A RAPIDLY EVOLVING MEDICAL DISCIPLINE. THE AAVMC DEVELOPS LEADERS IN ACADEMIES VETERINARY MEDICINE AND THROUGHOUT THE PROFESSION.

MEETINGS AND AWARDS: AS A REFLECTION OF ITS COMMITMENT TO EDUCATION, THE AAVMC HOSTS MEETINGS, SYMPOSIUMS AND CONFERENCES FOR CONSTITUENTS AND STAKEHOLDERS. THESE EDUCATIONAL MEETINGS AND CONFERENCES PROMOTE BEST PRACTICES IN VETERINARY MEDICAL EDUCATION, DISSEMINATE INFORMATION ABOUT VETERINARY MEDICAL EDUCATION, INFORM STUDENTS ABOUT VETERINARY CAREERS, FACILITATE COMMUNICATION WITH LEGISLATORS AND OTHER HIGH-LEVEL DECISION MAKERS, PROMOTE DIVERSITY, ADVANCE RESEARCH, FOSTER TEACHING AND LEADERSHIP SKILLS, AND CHAMPION THE IMPORTANCE OF VETERINARY MEDICAL EDUCATION.

ADMISSION AND RECRUITMENT: THE ADMISSIONS AND RECRUITMENT COMMITTEE (ARC) IS A COMMITTEE OF THE ASSEMBLY OF THE ASSOCIATION OF AMERICAN VETERINARY MEDICAL COLLEGES (AAVMC) AND IS MADE UP OF THREE WORKING GROUPS: ARC STRATEGIC GROUP; OPERATIONS WORKING GROUP; AND OUTREACH & RECRUITMENT WORKING GROUP. THE ARC STRATEGIC GROUP SERVES AS THE MAIN ARC COMMITTEE WITH OVERSIGHT OF THE OTHER GROUPS.ARC STRATEGIC GROUP IS CHARGED WITH REVIEWING AND IMPLEMENTING EVIDENCE-BASED STUDENT SELECTION PRACTICES, EMBEDDED WITHIN THE FRAMEWORK OF APPROPRIATE PEDAGOGICAL PRINCIPLES, ANALYZING STUDENT SELECTION OUTCOMES, AND PLANNING STUDENT SELECTION PROGRAMMING FOR THE AAVMC ANNUAL MEETING. COORDINATING WITH AAVMC STAFF LIAISON FOR RECOMMENDATIONS FOR INITIATIVE BUDGET, POLICY & PROCEDURES CHANGES.OPERATIONS WORKING GROUP IS CHARGED WITH OVERSEEING ISSUES RELATED TO THE VETERINARY MEDICAL COLLEGE APPLICATION SERVICE (VMCAS) AND ITS VENDOR, OPERATIONAL ADMISSIONS ISSUES, AAVMC ADMISSIONS WORKSHOP PROGRAMMING AT THE ANNUAL CONFERENCE, COORDINATING WITH THE ARC STRATEGIC GROUP ON RECOMMENDATIONS FOR INITIATIVE BUDGET, POLICY & PROCEDURE CHANGES.OUTREACH & RECRUITMENT WORKING GROUP IS CHARGED WITH OVERSEEING ACTIVITIES RELATED TO PIPELINE OUTREACH & DEVELOPMENT, RESEARCH AND STUDIES RELATED TO K-12 (AND OTHER) VETERINARY SCHOOL RECRUITMENT ACTIVITIES, OVERSIGHT OF PRE-VET / PRE-HEALTH ADVISOR DEVELOPMENT INITIATIVES, COORDINATING WITH THE OPERATIONS WORKING GROUP AND THE ARC STRATEGIC GROUP ON RECOMMENDATIONS FOR INITIATIVE BUDGET, POLICY & PROCEDURE CHANGES.
