THE FOUNDATION IS DEDICATED TO THE PRESERVATION AND INTERPRETATION OF THE MANHATTAN PROJECT AND THE ATOMIC AGE AND ITS LEGACY. THE FOUNDATION'S GOAL IS TO PROVIDE THE PUBLIC NOT ONLY A BETTER UNDERSTANDING OF THE PAST BUT ALSO A BASIS FOR ADDRESSING SCIENTIFIC, TECHNICAL, POLITICAL, SOCIAL AND ETHICAL ISSUES OF THE 21ST CENTURY.

EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS AND PRODUCTSTHE ATOMIC HERITAGE FOUNDATION (AHF) DEVELOPED A VARIETY OF EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS AND PRODUCTS ON THE MANHATTAN PROJECT AND THE ATOMIC AGE. - "VOICES OF THE MANHATTAN PROJECT" INTERVIEWS AND WEBSITE: IN 2012, AHF AND THE LOS ALAMOS HISTORICAL SOCIETY LAUNCHED A WEBSITE, "VOICES OF THE MANHATTAN PROJECT" (MANHATTANPROJECTVOICES.ORG) FEATURING INTERVIEWS WITH MANHATTAN PROJECT VETERANS, THEIR FAMILIES, AND EXPERTS. THE WEBSITE NOW HAS MORE THAN 600 INTERVIEWS, MAKING IT ONE OF THE MOST ROBUST ONLINE ARCHIVES ON THE MANHATTAN PROJECT AND ITS LEGACIES. IN 2019, AHF RECORDED MORE THAN TWO DOZEN NEW INTERVIEWS AND PUBLISHED MORE THAN A DOZEN OTHERS RECORDED DECADES AGO TO "VOICES OF THE MANHATTAN PROJECT." ADDITIONAL COSTS INCLUDED SOME MAINTENANCE AND REDESIGN OF THE WEBSITE. THE WEBSITE CONTINUES TO DRAW TENS OF THOUSANDS OF VISITORS FROM AROUND THE WORLD. - RANGER IN YOUR POCKET: OAK RIDGE INNOVATIONS: AHF COLLABORATED WITH THE EAST TENNESSEE SECTION OF THE INSTITUTE OF ELECTRICAL AND ELECTRONICS ENGINEERS (IEEE) TO PRODUCE A "RANGER IN YOUR POCKET" ONLINE INTERPRETIVE PROGRAM ON "OAK RIDGE INNOVATIONS." AHF PUBLISHED THE PROGRAM IN EARLY 2019. THE PROGRAM FEATURES MORE THAN 30 AUDIO/VISUAL VIGNETTES ON THE SCIENTIFIC AND ENGINEERING INNOVATIONS DEVELOPED AT OAK RIDGE, TN DURING AND AFTER WORLD WAR II, AND THE ROLE OF THESE INNOVATIONS IN RESPONDING TO TODAY'S GLOBAL CHALLENGES. - HANFORD INTERPRETIVE PROGRAMS: AHF PUBLISHED TWO NEW INTERPRETIVE PROGRAMS AS PART OF ITS "RANGER IN YOUR POCKET" PROGRAM. ONE IS ON "AFRICAN-AMERICANS IN THE MANHATTAN PROJECT AND THE OTHER ON "HANFORD'S ENVIRONMENTAL LEGACY." EACH PROGRAM HAS SOME 25 AUDIO/VISUAL ENTRIES FEATURING THE FIRST-HAND ACCOUNTS OF PARTICIPANTS, EXPERT COMMENTARY AND DOCUMENTARY PHOTOGRAPHS. - AHF EDUCATIONAL RESOURCES: IN 2019, AHF CONTINUED TO EXPAND THE EDUCATIONAL RESOURCES ON ITS PRIMARY WEBSITE, ATOMICHERITAGE.ORG. AHF NOW HAS 14,000 PROFILES OF SCIENTISTS AND VETERANS IN THE MANHATTAN PROJECT VETERANS DATABASE ON THE SITE, ALONG WITH HUNDREDS OF PHOTOGRAPHS AND DOCUMENTS DONATED BY THE VETERANS AND THEIR FAMILIES. AHF PUBLISHED MANY NEW HISTORY ARTICLES, KEY DOCUMENTS, AND ARTICLES ON PROJECT SITES. IN ADDITION, AHF PUBLISHED SEVERAL NEWS ARTICLES PER MONTH WITH UPDATES ON THE MANHATTAN PROJECT NATIONAL HISTORICAL PARK, EVENTS, AND OTHER ITEMS, AS WELL AS DAILY SOCIAL MEDIA UPDATES FOR THOUSANDS OF FOLLOWERS. - VOICES FROM JAPAN: AHF CONDUCTED 11 INTERVIEWS IN JAPAN IN FEBRUARY 2019 AND PUBLISHED THEM AS PART OF THE RANGER IN YOUR POCKET PROGRAM CALLED "VOICES FROM JAPAN." PRESIDENT CYNTHIA C. KELLY INTERVIEWED THE MAYORS OF HIROSHIMA AND NAGASAKI AS WELL AS HIBAKUSHA (ATOMIC BOMB SURVIVORS) AND OTHER LEADING EXPERTS IN HIROSHIMA, NAGASAKI AND TOKYO. KELLY ALSO PARTICIPATED IN SESSIONS AT THE UNIVERSITY OF NAGASAKI AND MEIJI GAKUIN UNIVERSITY IN TOKYO. - GUIDE TO THE MANHATTAN PROJECT IN NEW MEXICO: IN OCTOBER, THE ATOMIC HERITAGE FOUNDATION PUBLISHED AN UPDATED VERSION OF ITS POPULAR GUIDE TO THE MANHATTAN PROJECT IN NEW MEXICO. THIS VERSION ANTICIPATED AN INCREASED DEMAND WITH THE 75TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE MANHATTAN PROJECT AND THE PREVIOUS VERSION WAS OUT-OF-PRINT. WRITTEN FOR STUDENTS, TOURISTS AND GENERAL AUDIENCES, THE GUIDEBOOK IS PART OF A FOUR-VOLUME SERIES ON THE MANHATTAN PROJECT SITES.
PRESERVATION ACTIVITIESTHE ATOMIC HERITAGE FOUNDATION (AHF), WORKING IN PARTNERSHIP WITH OTHER INSTITUTIONS, PRESERVES, COMMEMORATES AND INTERPRETS THE MANHATTAN PROJECT AND THE ATOMIC AGE. - THE ATOMIC HERITAGE FOUNDATION WORKED WITH THE NATIONAL PARK SERVICE, LOCAL COMMUNITIES, AND OTHER GROUPS ON PLANNING FOR INTERPRETIVE PRODUCTS AND PRESERVING HISTORICAL RESOURCES FOR THE MANHATTAN PROJECT NATIONAL HISTORICAL PARK. - IN JUNE 2019, THE ATOMIC HERITAGE FOUNDATION ENTERED A PARTNERSHIP WITH THE NATIONAL MUSEUM ON NUCLEAR SCIENCE & HISTORY IN ALBUQUERQUE WHICH WILL ASSUME RESPONSIBILITY AS STEWARD FOR THE AHF'S RESOURCES INCLUDING THE WEBSITES, LIBRARY AND OTHER MATERIALS. DURING A TRANSITIONAL PERIOD, AHF WILL ADVISE THE MUSEUM AND CONTINUE TO WORK WITH THE NATIONAL PARK SERVICE, MANHATTAN PROJECT HISTORICAL SOCIETIES, MUSEUMS, SCHOLARS, AND OTHERS ON SELECTED PROJECTS.
