Organizations Filed Purposes:
BEYOND BORDERS HELPS PEOPLE BUILD MOVEMENTS TO LIBERATE THEMSELVES FROM OPPRESSION AND ISOLATION. IN HAITI AND THE UNITED STATES, WE ARE BRINGING PEOPLE TOGETHER FOR JUST AND LASTING CHANGE. WE SUPPORT MOVEMENTS IN HAITI TO END CHILD SERVITUDE, GUARANTEE UNIVERSAL ACCESS TO EDUCATION, END VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN AND GIRLS, AND REPLACE SYSTEMS THAT OPPRESS THE POOR WITH SYSTEMS THAT SUPPORT DIGNIFIED WORK AND SUSTAINABLE LIVELIHOODS.
URBAN MODEL COMMUNITY INITIATIVE: IN PORT-AU-PRINCE, BEYOND BORDERS REACHED MORE THAN 6,000 INDIVIDUALS THROUGH CHILD RIGHTS TRAINING AND AWARENESS- RAISING CAMPAIGNS. TWENTY CHILD RIGHTS TRAINERS WERE TRAINED. MORE THAN 200 ADULT SURVIVORS OF CHILD SERVITUDE WERE TRAINED AND SUPPORTED TO MOBILIZE EIGHT NEIGHBORHOODS TO END CHILD SERVITUDE AND LIBERATE CHILDREN. IN THESE NEIGHBORHOODS, BEYOND BORDERS CONDUCTED SOCIAL MAPPING EXERCISES TO SUPPORT THE IDENTIFICATION OF CHILDREN LIVING IN DOMESTIC SERVITUDE. ADULT SURVIVORS'GROUPS CONDUCTED ASSESSMENTS TO INFORM PLANS TO BUILD CAPACITY IN ORGANIZING AND MOBILIZING. ONE CHILD WAS LIBERATED FROM DOMESTIC SERVITUDE. THREE LEGAL CASES WERE FILED AGAINST PERPETRATORS OF HUMAN TRAFFICKING.
RURAL MODEL COMMUNITY INITIATIVE: BEYOND BORDERS AND PARTNERS ENGAGED EIGHTY-THREE COMMUNITIES TO BUILD LEADERSHIP, FACILITATE POPULAR EDUCATION, AND ORGANIZE TO PROTECT CHILDREN AND END CHILD SERVITUDE. MORE THAN 600 ADULT SURVIVORS OF CHILD SERVITUDE WERE SUPPORTED TO ORGANIZE AND MOBILIZE THEIR COMMUNITIES. SIX NEW CHILD PROTECTION BRIGADES WERE INAUGURATED, AND 120 CHILDREN RECEIVED SUPPORT FROM CHILD PROTECTION BRIGADES TO ATTEND SCHOOL. BEYOND BORDERS SUPPORTED 220 FAMILIES TO RISE OUT OF EXTREME POVERTY AND 23 SCHOOLS TO IMPROVE EDUCATION QUALITY AND CULTIVATE SCHOOL GARDENS. EIGHTY-SIX SCHOOL FAMILIES RECEIVED SUPPORT TO PLANT BACKYARD VEGETABLE GARDENS,WITH 10 RECEIVING HOME RAINWATER HARVESTING SYSTEMS.
MOVEMENT TO END VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN AND GIRLS/RETHINKING POWER PROGRAM: BEYOND BORDERS CONTINUED COMMUNITY MOBILIZATION IN EIGHT COMMUNITIES TO PROMOTE SOCIAL NORMS CHANGE TO PREVENT VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN AND GIRLS (VAWG) USING THE METHODOLOGIES SASA AND POWER TO GIRLS, AS WELL AS SAFE AND CAPABLE, AN ALL-NEW COMPLEMENTARY RESOURCE PACK TO PREVENT VAWG WITH DISABILITIES DEVELOPED BY BEYOND BORDERS WITH A GRANT FROM THE UN TRUST FUND TO END VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN. TO SCALE THESE METHODOLOGIES IN HAITI, BEYOND BORDERS PROVIDED ONGOING TRAINING AND TECHNICAL SUPPORT TO MORE THAN TEN ORGANIZATIONS TO MOBILIZE THEIR OWN COMMUNITIES.
