Breathe DCs mission centers around promoting healthy lifestyles and preventing lung disease through advocacy, education and program services, especially in communiies affected by health disparities.
Cessation and Health EquityIn partnership with the DC Department of Health, Breathe DC promotes resources to help DC residents quit smoking. We offer group cessation classes and referrals to the 1-800-QUIT-NOW DC Tobacco Free Quitline.By calling the Quitline individuals gain access to free counseling services and patches or lozenges to assist in their efforts to quit. Breathe DC also offers residents free access to Carbon Monoxide testing at health fairs and special company presentations.These cessation services educate District residents on the perils of smoking cigarettes, and helps smokers quit smoking.
Breathe EASY - Home Improvement projectBreathe DC provided case management enhancement and referral services for children at high risk of asthma attacks through home visits and data collected for smoking cessation counseling sessions. Analysis of smoking cessation impact will take place during analysis of other project data including emergency room utilization and hospitalizations. Sets of materials distributed, educational sessions and homes undergo integrated pest management.
Other program in support of establishment of smoke free places and quality of health.
