THE PRIMARY MISSION OF CLUW IS TO UNIFY ALL UNION WOMEN IN A VIABLE ORGANIZATION TO DETERMINE COMMON PROBLEMS AND CONCERNS TO DEVELOP ACTION PROGRAMS WITHIN THE FRAMEWORK OF OUR UNIONS TO DEAL EFFECTIVELY WITH OUR GOALS; TO PROMOTE AFFIRMATIVE ACTION IN THE WORKPLACE; STRENGTHEN THE ROLE OF WOMEN IN UNIONS; ORGANIZE THE UNORGANIZED WOMEN; AND TO INCREASE INVOLVEMENT OF WOMEN IN THE POLITICAL AND LEGISLATIVE PROCESS.

THE COALITION OF LABOR UNION WOMEN (CLUW) CELEBRATED OUR 20TH BIENNIAL CONVENTION OCTOBER 15-18, 2019 IN LAS VEGAS, NV. THE CONVENTION THEME WAS "COMING TOGETHER TO CHANGE THE WORLD" WHERE MORE THAN 400 DELEGATES AND OBSERVERS WERE IN ATTENDANCE. PRIOR TO THE OPENING OF THE CONVENTION, CLUW PROVIDED A FULL DAY OF WORKSHOPS COVERING CONSTITUTION AND FINANCE; SOCIAL MEDIA; HEALTH AND MEDITATION; RACE, CLASS, AND GENDER BIAS; PUBLIC SPEAKING; AND PARLIAMENTARY PROCEDURE. FOR THE FIRST TIME IN CLUW'S HISTORY, THE CONVENTION OPENED WITH THE PRESENTATION OF COLORS DONE BY CLUW MEMBERS WHO SERVED IN THE MILITARY.WE WORKED CLOSELY WITH THE NEVADA STATE AFL-CIO AND THE SOUTHERN NEVADA CLC IN PREPARATION FOR CLUW'S 20TH BIENNIAL CONVENTION HELD IN OCTOBER IN LAS VEGAS. LEVI ALLEN'S RECEIVING A PEACE PRIZE AT AFL-CIO HEADQUARTERS;NATIONAL CLUW AGREED TO SUPPORT IAM'S ORGANIZING DRIVE FOR MILITARY AND FAMILY LIFE COUNSELORS); CLUW SENT OUT A PETITION TO SAVE THE PEOPLE'S POST OFFICE.CLUW ISSUED AN ACTION ALERT IN SUPPORT OF AIRLINE WORKERS.CLUW SIGNED ONTO A LETTER TO EEOC CHAIR OBJECTING TO A RULE UNDER CONSIDERATION THAT WOULD PREVENT FEDERAL GOVERNMENT EMPLOYEES WHO ARE UNION REPRESENTATIVES FROM USING OFFICIAL TIME TO SERVE IN A REPRESENTATIONAL CAPACITY IN EEO PROCESSES.
