Organizations Filed Purposes:
Collective Action for Safe Spaces is a Black,trans,queer, and non-binary-led organizaton that uses public education, cultural organizing, coalition-building, and advocacy to build community safety. CASS cultivates the greater DC community's capactity to respond directly to patriarchal and state violence through transformative justice and abolitionist frameworks.
To eliminate public gender harassment in DC
Transformative Justice Hub -The transformative Justice Hub is centered around suporting survivors who are Black, Indigenous and/or a person of color(BIPOC) and identify as women (trans and cis) and/or LGBTQ seeking healing, safety, and accountability. In 2020 CASS began a transformative justice study group cohort to train practitioners, a needs assessment researching the needs and wants of survivors, and and onine resource hub.
Workshops and Technical Assistance - CASS offers free community workshops and fee-for service trainings and technical assistance for organizations that are designed to procide participants wit the necessary tools to intervene in instances of interpersonal violence and actively support survivors without the criminal legal system. Our current workshiop offerings include bystander intervention, workplace harassment, anti-oppression, and transformative justice. In 2020 CASS held 30 workshops, ranging from public community workshops to workplace training.
Safe Bar Collective - Motivated by the impact of patriarchal and state violence in nightlife spaces, CASS created the Safe Bar Collective (SBC) to a)Train the staff and management with the tools they need to cultivate safer environments for their own employees and for their customers. Through these trainings we teach and practice concrete intervention and de-escalation tactics that employees can use when they witness harassment or microasgressions in their establishments.
