Organizations Filed Purposes: THE CONGRESSIONAL BLACK CAUCUS FOUNDATION, INC. (CBCF) IS A NONPROFIT, NONPARTISAN PUBLIC POLICY, RESEARCH AND EDUCATIONAL INSTITUTE THAT AIMS TO HELP IMPROVE THE SOCIOECONOMIC CIRCUMSTANCES OF AFRICAN AMERICANS AND OTHER UNDERSERVED COMMUNITIES. FOUNDED IN 1976 AND BASED IN WASHINGTON, D.C., CBCF ENVISIONS A WORLD IN WHICH THE BLACK COMMUNITY IS FREE OF ALL DISPARITIES AND ABLE TO CONTRIBUTE FULLY TO ADVANCING THE COMMON GOOD. ITS MISSION IS TO ADVANCE THE GLOBAL BLACK COMMUNITY BY DEVELOPING LEADERS, INFORMING POLICY AND EDUCATING THE PUBLIC. IT IS ACHIEVING THAT MISSION BY: FACILITATING THE EXCHANGE OF IDEAS AND INFORMATION TO ADDRESS CRITICAL ISSUES AFFECTING OUR COMMUNITIES; DEVELOPING STRATEGIC RESEARCH AND HISTORICAL RESOURCES FOR THE PUBLIC; PROVIDING LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT AND SCHOLARSHIP OPPORTUNITIES; DEVELOPING EFFECTIVE PROGRAMS AND RESEARCH TO ADDRESS SOCIAL, ECONOMIC AND HEALTH DISPARITIES.

LEADERSHIP INSTITUTE - THE CONGRESSIONAL BLACK CAUCUS FOUNDATION, INCORPORATED'S (CBCF) LEADERSHIP INSTITUTE OFFERS A MYRIAD OF PROGRAMS AIMED AT BUILDING THE NEXT GENERATION OF LEADERS TO INCLUDE: INTERNSHIPS, FELLOWSHIPS, SCHOLARSHIPS, AND STUDY ABROAD PROGRAMS. OPPORTUNITIES ARE PROVIDED TO AFRICAN AMERICAN EMERGING LEADERS INTERESTED IN GAINING FIRST-HAND EXPERIENCE IN PUBLIC POLICY MAKING AS WELL AS DULY COMMITTED TO ADDRESSING SOCIAL INEQUITIES AMONG UNDERSERVED GROUPS. INTERNSHIPS ARE OFFERED IN THE SPRING AND FALL (16-WEEKS) AND THE SUMMER (9-WEEKS) ALONG WITH PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT LEADERSHIP TRAINING. FELLOWSHIPS ARE FOR 20-MONTHS ALLOWING YOUNG PROFESSIONALS TO GAIN EXPERIENCE WORKING ON CAPITOL HILL IN BOTH MEMBER OFFICES THE HOUSE AND SENATE COMMITTEES. SCHOLARSHIPS ARE PROVIDED TO STUDENTS IN THE VISUAL AND PERFORMING ARTS AS WELL EDUCATIONAL SCHOLARSHIPS FOR ALL MAJORS.

THE AVOICE VIRTUAL LIBRARY PROJECT - THE AVOICE VIRTUAL LIBRARY PROJECT (WWW.AVOICEONLINE.ORG) IS AN EDUCATIONAL PROGRAM STARTED BY THE CONGRESSIONAL BLACK CAUCUS FOUNDATION, INC. TO CHART THE CAUCUS' POLITICAL CONTRIBUTIONS SINCE 1971. AS A VIRTUAL LIBRARY OF NEARLY 1400 ITEMS, IT CHALLENGES VISITORS TO FOCUS ON ORIGINAL SOURCES THAT ENCOURAGES LEARNERS TO CREATE PERSONAL LINKS TO THE CBC'S HISTORY AND SOCIAL IMPACT. THE LAUNCHING OF AVOICE WAS INSPIRED BY THE SLEW OF LEGISLATION AND INITIATIVES AS PART OF THE POST-KATRINA POLITICAL AND SOCIAL REACTION. REP. ELIJAH CUMMINGS DESCRIBED THE PROJECT AS TO "VIRTUALLY TAKE HISTORY OUT OF THOSE BOXES AND DISPLAY IT FOR THE WORLD TO SEE (WILSON 2006, P.5)"AVOICE IS A DISTINCTIVE KIND OF PRESERVATION PROJECT, HIGHLIGHTING AN IMPORTANT ASPECT OF BLACK POLITICAL STUDIES: LEGISLATING CIVIL RIGHTS DEMANDS A BROAD AND DYNAMIC SPECTRUM OF ACTIVITIES AND STRATEGIES OF ACTION. AVOICE LAUNCHED THE JOURNAL OF THE CENTER FOR POLICY ANALYSIS AND RESEARCH, ESTABLISHED AN EDITORIAL BOARD, HELD A JOURNAL RECEPTION LAUNCH IN OCTOBER OF 2018, HELD AN AVOICE SESSION WITH 100 HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS AT ALC, COMPLETED THE 10TH EXHIBIT, AND EXECUTED THE TRANSFER OF ALL AVOICE ARCHIVAL ITEMS FROM OUR UNIVERSITY OF TEXAS AT AUSTIN PARTNERS UNDER THE JURISDICTION AND OWNERSHIP OF CBCF.

EXECUTIVE ECONOMIC SUMMIT - THE PURPOSE OF THE SUMMIT WAS TO ADVANCE POLICY TO PROMOTE MINORITY ACCESS TO CAPITAL AS IT RELATES TO THE FINANCIAL SERVICES SECTOR, REAL ESTATE, EQUITY INVESTMENTS/DEVELOPMENT, AND LARGE SCALE GOVERNMENT CONTRACTING. SIX SUMMITS HAVE BEEN HELD SINCE 2015 WITH THE LAST SUMMIT HELD IN DETROIT ON MAY 6-7, 2018. THE TITLE WAS "OVERCOMING THE CHALLENGES OF THE PAST, PRESENT, AND FUTURE OF BLACK BUSINESS." A PUBLICATION WAS PRODUCED ON THE DAY LONG POLICY DISCUSSIONS ENTITLED, "DETROIT: A TALE OF TWO CITIES." THE DAY LONG SUMMIT INCLUDED KEYNOTE SPEAKERS, PANELS, NETWORKING OPPORTUNITIES, AND A PRE-RECEPTION DINNER.
