Organizations Filed Purposes: CONSTELLATION THEATRE COMPANY TELLS BIG, POWERFUL STORIES IN AN INTIMATE SPACE. WE SPARK CURIOSITY AND IMAGINATION WITH PLAYS FROM ALL OVER THE WORLD THAT FEATURE VISUAL SPECTACLE, ORIGINAL MUSIC, DYNAMIC MOVEMENT AND PASSIONATE ACTING ENSEMBLES. (CONTINUED ON SCHEDULE O) WE DRAW FROM THE GENRES OF FANTASY, FARCE, AND EPIC ADVENTURE TO TRANSPORT OUR AUDIENCES TO DRAMATIC WORLDS WHERE THE ACTION IS LARGER THAN LIFE.

SEE PART III, LINE 1.

IN 2019/20, CONSTELLATION THEATRE COMPANY CELEBRATED ITS THIRTEENTH SEASON OF EPIC, LARGER-THAN-LIFE THEATRE FEATURING TWO SPECTACULAR STORIES OF MUSIC, MYSTERY, AND MAYHEM. THOUGH CUT SHORT BY THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC, SEASON 13 WELCOMED 6,256 THEATERGOERS FROM ACROSS THE DC METROPOLITAN AREA AND BEYOND TO "FREE THEIR PASSION" FOR ADVENTUROUS STORIES AND EMBRACE THE MAGIC OF THEATRE.WE OPENED THE SEASON WITH A SENSATIONAL RUN OF ALAN MENKEN AND HOWARD ASHMAN'S "CAMPY, KOOKY, SPOOKY" MUSICAL LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS (OCTOBER 17 - NOVEMBER 24, 2019). LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS WAS NOMINATED FOR A TOTAL OF 11 HELEN HAYES AWARDS - THE MOST OF ANY ELIGIBLE PRODUCTION IN 2019 - INCLUDING OUTSTANDING PRODUCTION IN A MUSICAL. (CONT. ON SCH. O) NEXT, WE TOOK AUDIENCES ON A FAST-PACED JOURNEY ACROSS BRITAIN WITH A "SHARP, FUNNY" ADAPTATION OF ALFRED HITCHCOCK'S CLASSIC FILM THE 39 STEPS (FEBRUARY 6 - MARCH 12, 2020). WHEN THE CORONAVIRUS PANDEMIC SPREAD TO THE DC AREA IN EARLY MARCH, OUR ARTISTIC LEADERSHIP AND BOARD OF DIRECTORS CHOSE TO CANCEL THE FINAL FIVE PERFORMANCES OF THE 39 STEPS (MARCH 13-15) IN ORDER TO PROTECT THE HEALTH AND SAFETY OF OUR ARTISTS, AUDIENCES, AND STAFF.WE HAD PLANNED TO END THE SEASON WITH SARAH RUHL'S ETHEREAL EURYDICE (MAY 7 - JUNE 7), BUT IT QUICKLY BECAME CLEAR THAT WE WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO MOVE FORWARD SAFELY AND WE CANCELED THE PRODUCTION PRIOR TO THE START OF REHEARSALS. IN SPITE OF THIS DEVASTATING SETBACK, CONSTELLATION WAS ABLE TO UPHOLD OUR FINANCIAL COMMITMENTS TO ALL 26 ACTORS, DESIGNERS, AND TECHNICIANS ORIGINALLY CONTRACTED FOR EURYDICE. WE WERE ALSO ABLE TO HONOR THE ARTISTIC VISION OF DIRECTOR MARY HALL SURFACE AND HER TEAM OF COLLABORATORS BY SHOWCASING THEIR COSTUME SKETCHES, SET RENDERINGS, AND VISUAL RESEARCH ON OUR WEBSITE AND SOCIAL MEDIA.
