The Cooperative Development Foundation promotes cooperative education and development to improve the economic and social well-being of all people. We do this through 1) cooperative development projects for which we provide programmatic and/or financial support; 2) funding and dissemination of materials and research about cooperatives and economic issues impacting communities historically excluded because of discrimination and geography; education efforts that improve the leadership and skills of cooperative staffs and boards; and university related projects that strengthen rural communities, cooperatives and agriculture practices and 3) raising the awareness of cooperatives as an economic alternative both domestically and abroad. CDF supports its mission through direct expenditure, grants, and loans.
CDF promotes economic and community development through cooperative enterprise.
Through its grant and loan funds as well as its unrestricted revenue, CDF makes grants and loans to cooperatives, cooperative development organizations, cooperative lenders, universities and groups organizing cooperatives. We work predominately in the following three areas:1) Development - CDF provides cooperative development projects for which we provide programmatic and/or financial support, particularly in the worker cooperative and food sectors.
2) Education and Research - We fund and disseminate materials and research about cooperatives and economic issues impacting communities historically excluded because of discrimination and geography such as research into expansion of broadband into rural communities and through research into the impact of technology on worker and agriculture production; education on leadership and skills building for cooperative boards including emerging leaders and food cooperatives.
3) Awareness - Raising the awareness of cooperatives as an economic alternative both domestically and abroad, including the impact of cooperatives on healthy, sustainable and equitable communities.
