SUPPORT FOR ARTISTS WAS ACHIEVED THROUGH PRESENTING PERFORMANCES (IN-PERSON AND VIRTUALLY), PROVIDING RESIDENCIES, AND COMMISSIONING WORK - SERVING OVER 700 ARTISTS, SUPPORTING 57 PRESENTATIONS AND 3 COMMISSIONS, AND PROVIDING OVER 680 HOURS OF FREE REHEARSAL SPACE. DANCE PLACE'S EDUCATION PROGRAMS (ON-SITE, OFF-SITE, AND VIRTUALLY) SERVED OVER 6,000 PARTICIPANTS AND 15 SCHOOLS AND COMMUNITY CENTERS THROUGHOUT THE REGION. APPROXIMATELY $93,000 IN SCHOLARSHIPS WAS PROVIDED TO YOUTH AND FAMILIES ACROSS ALL OF OUR EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS. IN TOTAL, DANCE PLACE'S ARTISTIC, EDUCATION, AND COMMUNITY PROGRAMS ENRICHED THE LIVES OF 31,330 IN FISCAL YEAR 2020.
PERFORMANCES AND PRESENTATIONS-DANCE PLACE OFFERS A YEAR-ROUND WEEKEND DANCE PERFORMING SERIES THAT PRESENTS MODERN DANCE, AFRICAN DANCE, TAP DANCE, PERFORMANCE ART, HIP HOP, AND SPOKEN WORD BY DC-BASED, NATIONAL AND INTERNATIONAL COMPANIES. EARNED REVENUE FROM TICKET SALES TO THESE PERFORMANCES IS APPROXIMATELY 50% LESS THAN PRIOR YEARS DUE TO THE GOVERNMENT-MANDATED CLOSURE OF OUR PHYSICAL SPACE IN RESPONSE TO THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC. DANCE PLACE CONTINUED TO PAY ARTISTS TO PRESENT FREE ONLINE PERFORMANCES AND DISCUSSIONS THAT WERE FREE TO THE PUBLIC.
YOUTH EDUCATION - DANCE PLACE OFFERS CLASSES AND WORKSHOPS BOTH ON-SITE AND OFF-SITE FOR YOUTH, FAMILIES AND COMMUNITY ORGANIZATIONS. THE ENERGIZERS ON-SITE ENRICHMENT PROGRAMS PROVIDE CREATIVE EDUCATION AND JOB TRAINING THROUGH THE ARTS FOR LOCAL YOUTH. DANCE PLACE ALSO PROVIDES FREE/AFFORDABLE REHEARSAL SPACE FOR ARTISTS TO REHEARSE AND CREATE NEW WORKS.
