DC INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL INSPIRES INQUIRING, ENGAGED, KNOWLEDGEABLE AND CARING SECONDARY STUDENTS WHO ARE MULTI-LINGUAL, CULTURALLY COMPETENT, AND COMMITTED TO PROACTIVELY CREATING A SOCIALLY JUST AND SUSTAINABLE WORLD.
DCI PROVIDES ADVANCED LANGUAGE LEARNING IN CHINESE, FRENCH, AND SPANISH, AND THE INTERNATIONAL BACCALAUREATE MIDDLE YEARS AND DIPLOMA PROGRAMS IN A 1:1 TECHNOLOGY ENVIRONMENT TO DC PUBLIC MIDDLE AND HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS. THE CHARTER SCHOOL WAS FOUNDED BY THE ELEMENTARY LANGUAGE IMMERSION SCHOOLS IN DC TO PROVIDE A PATHWAY FOR THEIR PRE-K - 5TH GRADE STUDENTS. DCI INSPIRES INQUIRING, ENGAGED, KNOWLEDGEABLE AND CARING SECONDARY STUDENTS WHO ARE MULTILINGUAL, CULTURALLY COMPETENT, AND COMMITTED TO PROACTIVELY CREATING A SOCIALLY JUST AND SUSTAINABLE WORLD. CORNERSTONES OF THE DCI EDUCATION INTERNATIONAL BACCALAUREATE FOR ALL, ADVANCED LANGUAGE LEARNING IN CHINESE, SPANISH, AND FRENCH AND A FOCUS ON STUDENT AGENCY POWERED BY OUR 1:1 CHROMEBOOKS.THIS YEAR DCI GRADUATED ITS FIRST STUDENTS, THE CLASS OF 2020! ALL OF DCI IS INCREDIBLY PROUD OF OUR STUDENTS AND THAT WE HAVE NOW SENT OUR FIRST CLASS ON TO THEIR FUTURE! AND THEY HAD TREMENDOUS SUCCESSES, DESPITE THE PANDEMIC:- 97% RECEIVED COLLEGE ACCEPTANCES- ALL STUDENTS PARTICIPATED IN THE IB CAREER OR DIPLOMA PROGRAM. EACH STUDENT ON AVERAGE TOOK 5.38 IB (HONORS) CLASSES.- 77% OF OUR STUDENTS RECEIVED A BILITERACY SEAL FOR THEIR DIPLOMA IN EITHER CHINESE, FRENCH OR SPANISH.WE WERE ALSO VERY PROUD OF HOW OUR SCHOOL NAVIGATED THE PANDEMIC THIS YEAR. IN EARLY MARCH, AS WE WATCHED CHINA AND EUROPE SHUT DOWN, WE CREATED A PLAN FOR DISTANCE AND HYBRID LEARNING. THE TRANSITION HAPPENED QUICKLY: ON MARCH 10TH WE TRAINED STAFF, ON MARCH 13TH WE TRAINED STUDENTS, AND BY MARCH 17TH WE OPENED UP IN FULL DISTANCE LEARNING. DCI HAS ALWAYS PROVIDED ALL STUDENTS WITH A CHROMEBOOK AND UTILIZES DIGITAL TOOLS IN CLASSES DAILY, SO OUR STUDENTS HAD THE TECHNOLOGY AND KNOWLEDGE TO BEGIN DISTANCE LEARNING WITH THEIR TEACHERS ALMOST SEAMLESSLY. PARENTS, STUDENTS AND STAFF ALL SHARED HOW THEY FELT SUPPORTED AND WERE LEARNING IN THIS CHALLENGING TIME.IN 2020-21, WE WILL CONTINUE TO SUPPORT OUR STUDENTS IN DISTANCE, HYBRID AND IN-PERSON LEARNING AND GRADUATE OUR SECOND CLASS, THE CLASS OF 2021.
