THE IRAQ FOUNDATION WORKS TO PROMOTE DEMOCRACY, HUMAN RIGHTS, AND CIVIL SOCIETY IN IRAQ, AND HELPS IRAQ IN CONTRIBUTING TO REGIONAL STABILITY.
THE IRAQ FOUNDATION WORKS FOR DEMOCRACY AND HUMAN RIGHTS IN IRAQ AND FOR IMPROVING THE LIVES OF IRAQIS. THE FOUNDATION WORKS LARGELY WITH IRAQI NGO'S AND COOPERATE WITH RELEVANT GOVERNMENT INSTITUTIONS. TO ACHIEVE OUR GOALS WE UTILIZE A VARIETY OF TOOLS SUCH AS TRAINING WORKSHOPS, CONFERENCES, PUBLICATIONS AND RADIO AND TV PROGRAMS. WE AIM TO BE INCLUSIVE IN ALL REGIONS OF IRAQ.
IMPROVING POLICY, SERVICE DELIVERY, GENDER EQUALITY AND RESPONSIVENESS TO IRAQI CITIZENS - THIS IS A THREE-YEAR PROJECT FUNDED BY THE SWEDISH INTERNATIONAL DEVELOPMENT COOPERATION AGENCY ("SIDA"). RESPONDING TO A DIRECT REQUESTS FROM SENIOR POLITICIANS, OFFICIALS, PARLIAMENTARY STAFF AND CIVIL SOCIETY ORGANIZATIONS FOR SUPPORT, THE IRAQ FOUNDATION AND GLOBAL PARTNERS GOVERNANCE ARE WORKING JOINTLY IN FOUR MAIN AREAS OF CONCERN, NAMELY, I) THE QUALITY AND TIMELINESS OF POLICY AND LEGISLATION EMERGING FROM BAGHDAD, II) INADEQUATE IMPLEMENTATION AT PROVINCIAL AND LOCAL LEVEL RESULTING IN POOR AND INCONSISTENT SERVICE DELIVERY, III) A LACK OF RESPONSIVENESS TO THE PUBLIC FROM IRAQ'S POLITICIANS AND POLITICAL INSTITUTIONS, AND IV) A FAILURE TO ADDRESS PERSISTENT GENDER INEQUALITIES IN BOTH POLICIES AND POLITICAL REPRESENTATION.
WOMEN AGAINST VIOLENCE AND EXTREMISM - DURING 2019, THE FOUNDATION LAUNCHED THE WOMEN AGAINST VIOLENCE AND EXTREMISM ("WAVE"). IT IS A 12-MONTH, GROUND-BREAKING PROJECT IMPLEMENTED IN NINAWA, ANBAR, AND PROJECT SALAHEDDIN GOVERNORATES WITH THE GOAL OF EQUIPPING WOMEN TO BUILD FAMILY AND COMMUNITY RESILIENCE AGAINST VIOLENCE AND EXTREMISM AND CONTRIBUTE TO SOCIAL PEACE IN THEIR COMMUNITIES. IT SEEKS TO BUILD THE CAPACITIES OF WOMEN LEADERS TO IDENTIFY MARKERS AND INDICATORS OF RADICALIZATION AND VIOLENCE, TEACH SKILLS TO COUNTER VIOLENT EXTREMISM WITHIN COMMUNITIES, AND RAISE AWARENESS AND ADVOCACY FOR WOMEN'S ROLE AS THE FIRST LINE OF DEFENSE AGAINST EXTREMISM. THE PROJECT IS FUNDED BY THE NETHERLANDS MINISTRY OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS.
