Organizations Filed Purposes:
To support children, youth and families to become healthy, empowered and connected in a multi-cultural community. Our programs focus on the provision of community -based child welfare services, youth-centered programming and assistance to DC families transitioning from homelessness to permanent housing.
GAFSC provides services that stabilize and strengthen families and prevent the abuse and neglect of children and build the District of Columbias capacity of the Ward 4 community to support youth and families.
CFSA- In FY19 the D.C.Child and Family Service AgencyCFSA contracted with GAFSC to provide community based child welfare services through programs that prevent and reduce the occurence of child abuse and neglect, preserve families at risk of entering the child welfare system, and stabilize families with open cases in the system. Accomplishments in FY 2019 include the following 1 GAFSC served 115 families with 257 children between the ages of-182- 99 of children in the families receiving case management were able to remain safely in the same home 3- GAFSC began implementing bilingual Spanish and English Parent Cafes during which parents learn about family protective factors and engage in small group discussions about these factors 4.Quarterly on-site family enrichment activities provided parents and children opportunities to participate in fun and creative activites together.
TCP - In FY19 The Community Partnership for the Prevention of Homelessness TCPcontracted with GAFSC to provide the Family Rehousing Stabilization ProgramFRSP to homeless families with children. Services to 208 families included case management and housing relocation, with a focus on families self-sufficiency goals, access to permanent and independent living skills. Accomplishments in FY19 included 1 Of the 69 families who exited the program, 68 had a sustainable plan for independence or were transferred to a voucher program that provided the support they needed and 2 Seventeen Heads of Household were successfully linked to employment or skill-building programs.
OVSJG - In FY 19 the D.C. Office of Victim Services and Justice Grants contracted with GAFSC to provide the Show Up, Stand Out SUSOtruancy reduction program in ten elementary and/or middle schools located in the Districts Ward 4 and one elementary school in Ward 5. Accomplishments in FY 19 included 1 Provision of case management services for 39 families and engagement of 52 middle school students in truancy prevention services and activities2 Creation of youth entrepreneurship opportunities for 11 teens that do not meet the eligibility criteria for the Districts summer youth progra and 3 In OVSJGs Evaluative Report of 2019 GAFSC ranking first in four categories of performance standards.
