Organizations Filed Purposes: GKI builds purpose-driven networks to deliver innovative solutions to the worlds most pressing problems. We thrive on creating the enabling environment, the mindset, and the tools that make collaborative innovation possible in complex systems.

Consulting(formerly Policy and Strategy). GKI helps institutions, including donor organizations and social impact organizations, develop, implement, and evaluate their practices to enable problem solving across sectoral, disciplinary and geographic boundaries to solve complex development challenges. Exmaple projects include USAID Catalyst: GKI is currently a lead design partner on the five-year, $24 million Catalyst buy-in mechanism. The mechanism advances innovation for complex development challenges by providing institutional support and technical assistance to USAID offices. World Bank Outlook 2050: There is a growing recognition that the Paris Agreements long-term objective to limit climate change to 2C of warming will not be met through the current nation commitments. GKI engaged WB staff across the sectors to create a vision of innovative solutions for how the World Bank can engage the countries it works with to promote a 2C future.

Training(formerly Capacity Development). Through a customized range of resources, tools, and methods, GKI cultivates the knowledge, skills, and mindset needed to design innovative solutions to tackle complex challenges in a range of sectors, domains, and geographies. Polaris Capacity Training: GKI partnered with the Polaris Project, a 4-day immersive sprint focused on shifting their mindset towards systems thinking in their work to address the sex trafficking and labor trafficking systems. Virginia Tech Training: GKI trained Virginia Tech faculty to cultivate partnerships with agricultural researchers in East Africa by training them to 1) analyze their existing collaborations within the research ecosystem, (2) apply practices and processes to identify partnership opportunities and strengthen their networking and pitching skills, and (3) understand best practices for designing, managing and sustaining research networks to accelerate their research project goals.

Research(formerly Systems Research and Evaluation). GKI makes sense of complex issues through research and data visualization to illuminate options, opportunities, and threats. Systemic research allows analysis of the entire system from a range of actors perspectives, helping users understand the context of the problem and the dynamic relationships between actors, as well as the interplay between interventions and change outcomes. Example projects include: GAIN Delphi Research: Postharvest food loss is a complex challenge that requires the participation of the public and private sector. To combat this challenge Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition and GKI coalesced a network of global experts to prioritize and assess food systems and nutrition innovations. (FAO) NENA Food Systems Research: The Near East and North Africa Regions food systems have been affected by political unrest, environmental degradation, shifting demographics, and more.
