Improve individual and public health by promoting innovation, collaboration, and scaling optimal approaches to eradicating liver diseases
NASH Awareness, Education, Policy & Council: Global Liver Institute is dedicated to generating an effective response globally to the hidden and growing epidemic of nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH), a prevalent and potentially deadly liver disease affecting tens of millions of people. GLI NASH initiatives in 2019 included engagement in our multi-stakeholder NASH Council, public health policy initiatives, opening of a European office, management of International NASH Day and planning the Beyond the Biopsy campaign.
Liver Health Policy: With the hiring of a policy director in the U.S. and a director for European Office, Global Liver Institute accelerated its comprehensive liver health policy program in 2019. Work products included policy assessment, monthly Liver Health Policy Update newsletters, website content, engagement of NASH Council members, collaborative liver and public health advocacy partnerships, relationship building with government agencies, legislators, and potential collaborating organizations, legislative briefings, and support of and by patient advocates.
Liver Cancers Awareness, Education and Policy: The Liver Cancers Council and liver cancers initiatives are a strategic collaborative approach to creating proactive initiatives addressing the growing prevalence and mortality posed by hepatocellular carcinoma and other liver and biliary cancers. 2019 activities including recruitment of a director for liver cancers, landscape surveys, education and policy partnerships, and launch of October is for Livers awareness campaign.
