Organizations Filed Purposes: GREENPEACE, INC. IS A SOCIAL WELFARE ORGANIZATION THAT USES PEACEFUL PROTEST AND CREATIVE COMMUNICATION TO EXPOSE ENVIRONMENTAL PROBLEMS AND PROMOTE SOLUTIONS THAT ARE ESSENTIAL TO A GREEN AND PEACEFUL FUTURE. WE DO THIS THROUGH CREATIVE COMMUNICATIONS, POLICY ANALYSIS, SCIENTIFIC STUDIES, EARNED MEDIA, RESEARCH, INVESTIGATIONS AND PUBLIC EDUCATION. IN 2019, OUR PROGRAM INCLUDED FOUR FOCUS AREAS: CLIMATE & ENERGY, OCEANS, FORESTS AND DEMOCRACY, THE FIRST THREE ARE THE LARGEST AND THEIR ACCOMPLISHMENTS ARE DESCRIBED BELOW.

TO PROMOTE THE PROTECTION AND PRESERVATION OF THE ENVIRONMENT.

OUTREACH & EDUCATION & ACTIONS - GREENPEACE, INC. FURTHERS ITS MISSION OF PROTECTING THE ENVIRONMENT THROUGH RESEARCH, PUBLIC INFORMATION AND EDUCATION, AND OUTREACH AND ADVOCACY. IN 2019, GREENPEACE INC USED SEVERAL NOVEL APPROACHES FOR ENGAGING NEW CONSTITUENCIES AND MOBILIZING EVEN MORE PEOPLE OVERALL TO HELP ACHIEVE WINS FOR THE ENVIRONMENT.

CLIMATE & ENERGY - GREENPEACE, INC. IS CAMPAIGNING TO ADDRESS CLIMATE CHANGE. WE WORKED TOWARD AN END TO FOSSIL FUELS AND A RAPID AND JUST TRANSITION TO A CLEAN ENERGY ECONOMY. WE SUPPORT AN IMMEDIATE HALT TO ALL NEW PERMITS AND INFRASTRUCTURE FOR OIL AND GAS EXPLORATION AND EXTRACTION ON PUBLIC LANDS AND WATERS. WE ALSO SUPPORTED A GREEN NEW DEAL AND OTHER POLICY CHANGES THAT START THE RESPONSIBLE PHASEOUT OF ALL OIL AND GAS PRODUCTION, ENSURING A JUST TRANSITION FOR IMPACTED WORKERS AND COMMUNITIES. FINALLY, OUR CAMPAIGN EDUCATED POTENTIAL VOTERS ON THE MERITS OF PRESIDENTIAL PRIMARY CANDIDATES' PROPOSED CLIMATE POLICIES AS COMPARED TO SCIENTIFIC PREDICTIONS AND SOLUTIONS.2019 GREENPEACE INC CLIMATE AND ENERGY CAMPAIGN HIGHLIGHTS INCLUDE:1. LAUNCHED A NON-PARTISAN SCORECARD FOR THE PUBLIC TO GAUGE WHICH CANDIDATES ARE CLIMATE LEADERS, AND OUTLINED OUR CRITERIA FOR WHAT IT WILL TAKE FOR THE NEXT PRESIDENT TO AVOID THE WORST CLIMATE IMPACTS. 2. ENGAGED SUPPORTERS IN MINNESOTA TO SUPPORT THE STATE DEPARTMENT OF COMMERCE'S APPEAL OF THE TAR SANDS LINE 3 PERMITS. 3. SUCCEEDED IN INSPIRING TEN MAJOR DATA CENTER COMPANIES, INCLUDING APPLE, AMAZON, AND MICROSOFT, TO TAKE A PUBLIC STAND OPPOSING DOMINION ENERGY'S PLAN TO INCREASE INVESTMENT IN GAS, DEMANDING RENEWABLE ENERGY INVESTMENTS INSTEAD OF THE ATLANTIC COAST PIPELINE IN VIRGINIA.

OCEANS - GREENPEACE, INC. IS CAMPAIGNING FOR SUSTAINABLE FISHERIES AND SEAFOOD, OCEAN SANCTUARIES (MARINE RESERVES), AND PHASING OUT SINGLE-USE PLASTICS THAT ARE POLLUTING OUR BODIES, LAND, AND OCEANS. OUR CAMPAIGN LEVERAGES THE POWER OF LARGE SEAFOOD BUYERS, SEAFOOD PRODUCERS, AND GOVERNMENTS TO IMPROVE FISHERIES MANAGEMENT; REDUCES THE AMOUNT OF PLASTIC POLLUTION ENTERING THE OCEAN; DEFENDS SEAFOOD WORKERS' RIGHTS, AND SEEKS TO ESTABLISH A NETWORK OF INTERNATIONAL OCEAN SANCTUARIES.2019 GREENPEACE INC OCEAN CAMPAIGN HIGHLIGHTS INCLUDE:1. THE GLOBAL PROTECT THE OCEANS CAMPAIGN REACHED ITS HIGHEST MEDIA MOMENT WITH A COMBINED COVERAGE OF THE POLE-TO-POLE SHIP EXPEDITION'S SARGASSO SEA LEG AND THE 3RD ROUND OF THE INTERGOVERNMENTAL CONFERENCE ON MARINE BIODIVERSITY OF AREAS BEYOND NATIONAL JURISDICTION AT THE UNITED NATIONS. 2. GUEST SCIENTISTS FROM THE UNIVERSITY OF FLORIDA SAMPLED SARGASSUM SEAWEED TO DOCUMENT THE IMPORTANCE OF THE WORLD'S ONLY SEA WITH NO LAND BOUNDARIES TO OCEAN LIFE INCLUDING BABY SEA TURTLES. 3. THE TEAM ON BOARD ALSO DEPLOYED A "MANTA TRAWL" FOR MICROPLASTICS NEARLY EVERY DAY, AND COLLECTED WATER SAMPLES FOR MICROFIBERS AND EDNA. OUR FINDINGS INDICATED THAT THE CONCENTRATION OF MICROPLASTICS IN THE SARGASSO SEA IS ON PAR, IF NOT EXCEEDING, THAT OF THE GREAT PACIFIC GARBAGE PATCH. 4. A COLLABORATION WITH THE BERMUDIAN GOVERNMENT IS WORKING TO DOCUMENT THE TIME, LOCATION, BEHAVIOR, AND DIRECTION OF FLIGHT OF THE LONG-TAILED TROPICBIRD, IN ORDER TO HELP UNDERSTAND HOW FAR THIS BIRD TRAVELS FROM BERMUDA AND WHAT PARTS OF THE SARGASSO SEA ARE MOST IMPORTANT FOR THEIR FOOD NEEDS. ALL OF THESE EFFORTS HELP JUSTIFY THE PROTECTION OF THIS KEY HABITAT.5. GREENPEACE INVESTED IN SPECIALIZED EQUIPMENT TO EXPLORE AN EMERGING PHOTOGRAPHY STYLE, BLACKWATER PHOTOGRAPHY, WHICH INVOLVES DIVING ALONG A SPECIALIZED STRING OF LIGHTS IN THE OPEN OCEAN AT NIGHT, IN ORDER TO CREATE PICTURES OF CREATURES THAT MIGRATE UP TO THE SURFACE FROM THE DEEP MESOPELAGIC ZONE EACH EVENING. THE DIVING VISUALS TEAM HAD GREAT SUCCESS WITH THE SYSTEM, ENCOUNTERING DIFFERENT SPECIES ON EACH DIVE AND CREATING STUNNING PHOTOGRAPHS AND VIDEOS UNLIKE ANYTHING IN GREENPEACE'S MEDIA LIBRARY TO DATE.
