Convenings. In 2019, we held three significant convenings. In April, working in partnership with VSO, an international NGO based in England, we held Transformative Impact: Sustained Change through Corporate Volunteering, a forum that brought together corporate and NGO representatives from 23 different countries. In September, we convened a special regional meeting of 98 leaders from NGOs, corporations and government from 20 Latin American Countries. Held in Lima, Peru in cooperation with CLAVE The Latin American Corporate Volunteer Council, the 2-day event focused on a collaborative examination of the future of volunteering in the region. In November, we convened the 16th Asia-Pacific Regional Volunteer Conference, Unlocking the Power of Volunteering, in Bangkok, Thailand, in partnership with Volunteer Spirit Network, the Thai national leadership organization for volunteering. 417 delegates from 29 countries participated in the three day conference. We also engaged in extensive advance planning for our 2020 World Volunteer Conference to be held in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, co-hosted with the Emirates Foundation, in October 2020.
Network Development. IAVE is committed to building strong peer networks of leaders for volunteering throughout the world. In 2019, our Global Corporate Volunteer Council met three times, in London, England, St. Paul, Minnesota and Bangkok, Thailand. These meetings are a core part of the networks collaborative work, complemented by peer to peer technical assistance, webinars and consultation. We continued development of our global network of national leadership organizations for volunteering with a focus on formalizing membership and expanding our support services in 2020. We also continued promotion of our Global Friends of Volunteering, a no-cost way in which everyone can publicly express their support for volunteering.
Advocacy. IAVE works in cooperation with other international NGOs and the United Nations Volunteers (UNV) agency to promote the value of volunteering worldwide. We are members of the Technical Working Group for the process leading up to and the design for the 2020 United Nations Global Technical Meeting on Volunteering at the UN headquarters. We work collaboratively with UNV to encourage and assist national leadership organizations and other NGOs to collaborate with their governments on their Voluntary National Reviews on progress toward the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
