THE MISSION OF THE INTERNATIONAL SPY MUSEUM IS TO EDUCATE THE PUBLIC ABOUT ESPIONAGE AND INTELLIGENCE IN AN ENGAGING WAY AND TO PROVIDE A CONTEXT THAT FOSTERS UNDERSTANDING OF ITS IMPORTANT ROLE IN AND IMPACT ON CURRENT AND HISTORIC EVENTS. CONTINUED IN SCHEDULE O THE MUSEUM FOCUSES ON INTELLIGENCE AND REVEALS THE ROLE SPIES HAVE PLAYED IN WORLD EVENTS THROUGHOUT HISTORY. IT IS COMMITTED TO THE APOLITICAL PRESENTATION OF THE HISTORY OF ESPIONAGE IN ORDER TO PROVIDE VISITORS WITH IMPARTIAL, ACCURATE INFORMATION.
THE INTERNATIONAL SPY MUSEUM'S MISSION IS TO EDUCATE THE PUBLIC ON THE IMPORTANCE OF INTELLIGENCE.
THE EXHIBITS - THE INTERNATIONAL SPY MUSEUM, THE FIRST AND ONLY PUBLIC MUSEUM IN THE UNITED STATES SOLELY DEDICATED TO INTELLIGENCE AND ESPIONAGE, WELCOMES UPWARDS OF 700,000 VISITORS EVERY YEAR. AFTER ITS MAY 12, 2019 OPENING AT ITS NEW L'ENFANT PLAZA SITE, THE MUSEUM SERVED 458,000 VISITORS. ITS STATE-OF-THE-ART EXHIBITS BRING TO LIFE THE HISTORY, TRADECRAFT, PEOPLE, TOOLS, AND IMPACT OF INTELLIGENCE THROUGH ENGAGING STORIES, FILMS, INTERACTIVES, AND THE LARGEST COLLECTION OF INTERNATIONAL ESPIONAGE ARTIFACTS EVER PLACED ON PUBLIC DISPLAY. THE MUSEUM EXHIBITS ARE DESIGNED TO LIFT THE VEIL OF SECRECY ON THE HIDDEN WORLD OF INTELLIGENCE EXPLORING ITS SUCCESSES AND FAILURES, CHALLENGES AND CONTROVERSIES. BY EXAMINING WHAT SPIES AND INTELLIGENCE AGENCIES DO, HOW THEY DO IT, AND WHY, THE MUSEUM HELPS VISITORS BETTER UNDERSTAND THE IMPORTANT ROLE THESE ACTIVITIES PLAY IN SHAPING BOTH WORLD EVENTS AND OUR LIVES TODAY ENABLING PEOPLE TO BECOME MORE SAVVY CONSUMERS 0F THE INTELLIGENCE STORIES THEY SEE AND HEAR IN THE MEDIA, AND TO MAKE SENSE OF A COMPLICATED WORLD.
ACCESS TO SPY: OPENING OUR DOORS TO COMMUNITIES FACING BARRIERS IS A SERIES OF PROGRAMS FOR PEOPLE WITH PHYSICAL, COGNITIVE, AND FINANCIAL CHALLENGES. IN THE 7 MONTHS THE MUSEUM WAS OPEN DURING 2019, OVER 5,000 STUDENTS PARTICIPATED IN OUR FREE ADMISSION PROGRAM FOR TITLE ONE SCHOOLS WHO CANNOT AFFORD TO VISIT THE MUSEUM. OVER 450 INDIVIDUALS PARTICIPATED IN AN EARLY MORNING PROGRAM FOR THE AUTISM COMMUNITY, DESIGNED WITH ENHANCED ACCESSIBILITY AND FEWER SENSORY STIMULI. IMMUNOCOMPROMISED CHILDREN IN LOCAL HOSPITALS AND ADULTS WITH DEMENTIA AND THEIR CAREGIVERS WERE REACHED THROUGH FOUR PROGRAMS AT THEIR SITES.
STUDENT WORKSHOPS & RESOURCES - THE INTERNATIONAL SPY MUSEUM OFFERS A WIDE VARIETY OF WORKSHOPS & DOWNLOADABLE RESOURCES THAT ENCOURAGE ACTIVE LEARNING AND MEET NATIONAL CURRICULUM AND COMMON CORE STANDARDS. DESIGNED FOR GRADES 4 - 12, SUBJECTS RANGE FROM HISTORY & GOVERNMENT TO SCIENCE & TECHNOLOGY AND ADDRESS SKILL BUILDING IN THE AREAS OF CRITICAL & CREATIVE THINKING, PROBLEM SOLVING, AND TEAMWORK. SINCE 2011, MORE THAN 48,000 STUDENTS AND EDUCATORS HAVE ATTENDED WORKSHOPS. IN 2019, THE MUSEUM TAUGHT OVER 200 WORKSHOPS TO STUDENTS AROUND THE WORLD: 119 WERE ON-SITE WORKSHOPS, 3 WERE OFF-SITE AT LOCAL SCHOOLS, AND 82 WERE PROVIDED VIRTUALLY VIA OUR DISTANCE LEARNING PROGRAM.
