Organizations Filed Purposes: THE KIWANIS CLUB OF WASHINGTON, D.C. WAS FOUNDED IN 1917. IT IS ONE OF OVER 7,500 CLUBS IN KIWANIS INTERNATIONAL, A GLOBAL ORGANIZATION OF VOLUNTEERS WHO ORGANIZE ABOUT 150,000 SERVICE PROJECTS EACH YEAR TO HELP PEOPLE, ESPECIALLY CHILDREN, IN NEED.

THE KIWANIS CLUB OF WASHINGTON, D.C. IS A COMMUNITY SERVICE ORGANIZATION.

BRIGHT BEGINNINGS IS A NATIONALLY ACCREDITED CHILD AND FAMILY DEVELOPMENT CENTER, FOUNDED IN 1991 FOR HOMELESS FAMILIES WITH YOUNG CHILDREN IN WASHINGTON, D.C. THE CLUB STARTED TO PARTNER WITH THE CENTER FROM 2016. ITS MISSION IS TO PROVIDE HOMELESS CHILDREN WITH A SAFE, NURTURING, EDUCATIONAL ENVIRONMENT; PREPARE CHILDREN TO KINDERGARTEN READY TO LEARN, AND SUPPORT PARENTS TOWARDS SELF SUFFICIENCY. BRIGHT BEGINNINGS SERVES 89 CHILDREN THROUGH CENTER-BASED CARE AT ITS CURRENT SITE AND IS OPERATING AT CAPACITY. THE CENTER PROVIDE EXTENDED SERVICE THROUGH HOME-BASED PROGRAM WHICH INCREASES THE NUMBER OF CHILDREN SERVED FROM 89 TO 162. FUNDING FROM THE CLUB WILL PROVIDE PART OF THE REQUIRED MATCHING FUNDS NEEDED FOR THE HOME BASED CARE PROGRAM THAT WAS LAUNCHED BY THE OFFICE OF HEAD START.

THE CLUB CONDUCTS VARIOUS PROGRAMS TO HELP CHILDREN AND THE ELDERLY. SARAH'S CIRCLE IS AN EVENT HELD FOR THE RESIDENTS OF THE SARAH'S CIRCLE COMMUNITY, A HOUSING RESIDENCE AND WELLNESS CENTER IN WASHINGTON DC FOR VERY LOW INCOME SENIORS. RIVER TERRACE CENTER FALL CARNIVAL IS A BACK TO SCHOOL TREAT FOR THE CHILDREN AT SHARPE HEALTH SCHOOL, A WASHINGTON INSTITUTION FOR CHILDREN WHO HAVE PHYSICAL AND/OR MENTAL DISABILITIES. FIELD DAY IS AN ANNUAL EVENT AT A DC PUBLIC SCHOOL AND PROVIDES A DAY OF OUTDOOR FITNESS ACTIVITIES AND NUTRITION INFORMATION FOR STUDENTS. THE KIWANIS CLUB SPONSORS KEY CLUB AND CIRCLE K, ORGANIZATIONS THAT FOSTER SERVICE LEADERSHIP FOR HIGH SCHOOL AND COLLEGE STUDENTS, RESPECTIVELY. THE KIWANIS CLUB SPONSORS EVENTS FOR UNDERPRIVILEGED CHILDREN AT LOCAL BOYS & GIRLS CLUBS. LOAVES AND FISHES FEEDS THE HUNGRY AND EDUCATES VOLUNTEERS AND COMMUNITY MEMBERS ABOUT HUNGER AND HOMELESSNESS. THE STUDENT LEADER AWARDS RECOGNIZE THE OUTSTANDING LEADERSHIP AND ACHIEVEMENTS OF STUDENTS IN THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA.

THE CLUB MEMBERS HOLD LUNCHEON MEETINGS TO PLAN AND ORGANIZE THE PROGRAMS THAT ARE CONDUCTED EACH YEAR AND TO PROMOTE THE CLUB'S GOAL OF SERVICE TO OTHERS.
