THE CONGRESS OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, IN THE DECLARATION OF PURPOSE OF THE LEGAL SERVICES CORPORATION ACT (LSC ACT), FOUND THAT "THERE IS A NEED TO PROVIDE EQUAL ACCESS TO THE SYSTEM OF JUSTICE IN OUR NATION FOR INDIVIDUALS WHO SEEK (CONTINUE ON SCHEDULE O)REDRESS OF GRIEVANCES; "THAT THERE IS A NEED TO PROVIDE HIGH QUALITY LEGAL ASSISTANCE TO THOSE WHO WOULD OTHERWISE UNABLE TO AFFORD ADEQUATE LEGAL COUNSEL; AND "THAT PROVIDING LEGAL ASSISTANCE TO THOSE WHO FACE AN ECONOMIC BARRIER TO ADEQUATE LEGAL COUNSEL WILL SERVE BEST THE ENDS OF JUSTICE AND ASSIST IN IMPROVING OPPORTUNITIES FOR LOW-INCOME PERSONS." IN KEEPING WITH THIS MANDATE, THE LEGAL SERVICES CORPORATION (LSC) ESTABLISHES AS OUR MISSION: TO PROMOTE EQUAL ACCESS TO JUSTICE IN OUR NATION AND TO PROVIDE GRANTS FOR HIGH QUALITY CIVIL LEGAL ASSISTANCE TO LOW-INCOME PERSONS.
PROMOTES EQUAL ACCESS TO JUSTICE & PROVIDES GRANTS FOR CIVIL LEGAL ASSISTANCE TO LOW-INCOME AMERICANS
GRANTS AND CONTRACTS: LEGAL SERVICES CORPORATION PROVIDES FINANCIAL SUPPORT TO INDEPENDENT ORGANIZATIONS THAT DIRECTLY PROVIDE LEGAL ASSISTANCE IN NON-CRIMINAL PROCEEDINGS OR MATTERS TO PERSONS FINANCIALLY UNABLE TO AFFORD SUCHCOUNSEL.
HERBERT S. GARTEN LOAN REPAYMENT ASSISTANCE PROGRAM PROVIDES LOANS TO ATTORNEYS EMPLOYED BY LSC FUNDED LEGAL SERVICES PROGRAMS TO ASSIST LSC GRANTEE ATTORNEYS WITH LAW SCHOOL DEBT TO HELP LSC GRANTEES RECRUIT AND RETAIN QUALIFIED STAFF ATTORNEYS.
INNOVATIONS IN TECHNOLOGY CONFERENCE (ITC):ITC BRINGS TOGETHER LEADERS ACROSS THE JUSTICE COMMUNITY TO EXPLORE INNOVATED WAYS OF USING TECHNOLOGY TO PROMOTE BETTER ACCESS TO SERVICES AND ENSURE HIGH QUALITY LEGAL REPRESENTATION FOR LOW-INCOME INDIVIDUALS.
