Organizations Filed Purposes:
MACHIK'S PRIMARY PURPOSE IS TO GROW A GLOBAL COMMUNITY FOR A STRONGER FUTURE FOR TIBET THROUGH CIVIC ENGAGEMENT, GENDER EQUITY, SOCIAL INNOVATION, AND GOVERNANCE. THE ORGANIZATION PRIORTIZES COMMUNITY-BASED INITIATIVES THAT DRAW ON INNOVATIVE SOLUTIONS. MACHIK ALSO ENGAGES IN RESEARCH THAT SERVES THE PURPOSE OF THE OVERALL MISSION OF THE ORGANIZATION.
GENDER EQUITY PROGRAM--MACHIK WAS FOUNDED ON A CORE COMMITMENT TO PROMOTING WOMEN'S EDUCATION, CAPACITY BUILDING AND EMPOWERMENT. ONE OF OUR OVERARCHING PROGRAM PRIORITIES HAS BEEN THE DEVELOPMENT OF PROJECTS THAT REDUCE THE STRUCTURAL INEQUALITIES FACING TIBETAN WOMEN TODAY. IN ALL PROGRAMS ACROSS THE BOARD, WE PRIORITIZE WOMEN'S ACCESS TO OPPORTUNITIES AND TO LEADERSHIP ROLES. WE WORK TO ENSURE WOMEN'S AND GIRLS' REPRESENTATION IN ALL OUR PROGRAMS. THE MACHIK WEEKEND AND MACHIK KHABDA ARE MORE THAN 50% FEMALE. WE PUBLICLY HIGHLIGHT KEY TOPICS SUCH AS GENDER DISPARITY AND GENDER BASED VIOLENCE IN THE TIBETAN COMMUNITY. THIS YEAR WE ALSO LAUNCHED THE SECOND MACHIK GENDER SUMMIT WHICH CONVENED ABOUT 35 WOMEN TO DISCUSS AND LEARN ABOUT THE MYRIAD FORMS OF GENDER INEQUITIES CURRENTLY FACED. WE ALSO LAUNCHED THE FIRST TRANSLATION IN TIBETAN OF A DOMESTIC VIOLENCE PHRASEBOOK.
CIVIC ENGAGEMENT PROGRAM--MACHIK CONTINUED TO GROW PUBLIC EDUCATION TO A BROAD COMMUNITY OF TIBETANS, CHINESE AND AMERICANS ABOUT THE VITAL IMPORTANCE OF ENGAGEMENT FOR TIBET THROUGH A NUMBER OF INNOVATIVE INITIATIVES SUCH AS MACHIK WEEKEND, MACHIK KHABDA, AND A NUMBER OF LECTURES IN THE USA. THE 13TH ANNUAL MACHIK WEEKEND IN New York City WAS WELL-ATTENDED WITH OVER 450 PEOPLE FROM VARIOUS BACKGROUNDS SEEKING TO LEARN MORE ABOUT SOCIAL INNOVATION AND ENGAGEMENT FOR TIBET, AND BUILDING GREATER UNDERSTANDING AMONG DIVERSE GROUPS. THE MACHIK KHABDA CONVENED ABOUT 200 PEOPLE IN THE USA AND LOCATIONS AROUND THE WORLD TO HOLD DISCUSSIONS ABOUT SOCIAL INNOVATION BY CHANGE-MAKERS AND THE COMPLEX CONTEXT OF TIBET.
SOCIAL INNOVATION PROGRAM--SOCIAL INNOVATION PROGRAM--MACHIK FIRST INNOVATED THE EFFORT TO SPECIFICALLY IDENTIFY AND SUPPORT SOCIAL INNOVATORS IN TIBET. WE CONTINUED TO SUPPORT THEM BY WORKING TO CONNECT THESE TIBETAN INNOVATORS TO NEW NETWORKS AND TO GLOBAL INSTITUTIONS. WE CREATE NEW PLATFORMS FOR THEIR STORIES AND VISIONS WHICH IN TURN GENERATE GREATER LEARNING AND UNDERSTANDING OF TIBETAN LIVES TODAY. IN 2019, WE CONTINUED TO BUILD BRIDGES OF UNDERSTANDING BY FEATURING THE INNOVATIVE TIBETAN LANGUAGE FILMS OF FILMMAKERS FROM TIBET THROUGH MACHIK FILM SCREENINGS. WE ALSO FEATURED TIBET'S LEADING TIBETAN-LANGUAGE FILMMAKER AT MACHIK WEEKEND. AS WELL, WE ALSO SUPPORTED THE THIRD MACHIK GLOBAL LEAP FELLOW FROM TIBET TO ENABLE A YOUNG CHANGEMAKER TO GAIN NEW KNOWLEDGE AND NETWORKS TO ENHANCE THEIR WORK IN TIBET AND GROW THEIR IMPACT.
