Organizations Filed Purposes:
To provide a supportive community for nontheistic service members, to educate military leaders about nontheism, and to resolve insensitive practices that illegally promote religion or unethically discriminate against nontheism.
Support atheists and humanists in the military
Outreach to members: During 2014, the MAAF network of local leaders and groups grew to nearly 100. (militaryatheists.org/network). This outreach has directly helped personnel around the world and increased visibility of atheists in foxholes.
Education about nontheists in the military: Military leaders and chaplains especially have a limited amount of understanding about humanist values and the perspective of nontheists. By creating and distributing materials attending conferences, and advertising, MAAF builds opens doors and makes connections across the military.
Advocacy for nontheists in need: Though MAAF focuses primarily on positive accomplishments, many feel pressure or direct discrimination in uniform. To ensure our members are afforded their rights and to help military leaders understand their responsibilities, MAAF sends intervenes on behalf of those in need.
