MoveOn.org Civic Action is a 501(c)(4) nonprofit organization that focuses on primarily nonpartisan education and advocacy, provides civic engagement tools to the public, and builds the progressive movement by encouraging and supporting the development (see Sched. O) of more grassroots leaders. MoveOn.org Civic Action is home to MoveOn Petitions, our online petition tool that empowers MoveOn members to lead and win their own MoveOn campaigns.
See part III, line 1.
In 2019, MoveOn members helped power victories through mass mobilizations, petition deliveries, protests, and grassroots organizing. We used our social media channels to lift up compelling, moral voices across a range of issues. Together, we fought back against attacks on our democracy, pressured the Trump administration to reunite families and close detention centers, worked to defend Dreamers as their ability to live and thrive here continued to be under attack, demanded an end to the U.S. support of the Saudi-led war in Yemen, and supported the student leaders of the US Youth Climate Strike and other climate-focused groups in propelling the bold vision of the Green New Deal in Congress. Millions of MoveOn members marched against the Trump administration's unlawful and unjust policies, (see Sched. O) fought against separating children from their families at the border, stood alongside youth leaders calling for action on the climate crisis, spoke out against endless war, took to the streets defending our democratic institutions, and did much, much more.
Impeachment:MoveOn led the call for impeachment of President Trump, who repeatedly violated his oath of office and continued to obstruct justice and attack the core of our democracy, and we were carefully laying the groundwork to make impeachment a reality. MoveOn members made more than 40,000 pro-impeachment phone calls to Congress in 2019, and, in the largest petition delivery in U.S. history, alongside allies, we delivered 10 million pro-impeachment signatures to Congress. The night before the House of Representatives voted on impeachment, more than 200,000 MoveOn members organized and attended rallies and protests at more than 550 congressional offices and public squares to declare that Nobody Is Above the Law. On December 18, Trump became (see Sched. O) just the third president in U.S. history to be impeached for high crimes and misdemeanors and face removal by the Senate.
Mobile division: MoveOn harnessed cutting-edge technology to experiment, innovate, and build power with and alongside individuals and communities across the nation. MoveOn's Mobile Team improved the way issue advocacy campaigns are experienced through mobile devices, as well as leveraged new mobile technology to drive meaningful action. Our open-source texting platform, "Spoke," powerfully transforms the abilities of MoveOn supporters and allies to take meaningful, strategic actions. In addition to MoveOn's Text Team of 220 volunteers who can quickly contact nearly 3,000,000 other members to take action on issues progressives care about, in 2019 we enlarged our SMS program to reach more members in ways that lead to immediate impact, (see Sched. O) surpassing 1 million subscribed members on our blast texting list. Lastly, MoveOn sent 40,000,000 texts across platforms engaging members in progressive battles, including efforts to impeach Donald Trump, stop a rush to war with Iran, and stop our inhumane immigration policies.
