Organizations Filed Purposes: MY SISTER'S PLACE, INC. IS AN INTERACTIVE COMMUNITY COMMITTED TO ERADICATING DOMESTIC VIOLENCE. THE ORGANIZATION PROVIDES SAFE, CONFIDENTIAL SHELTER, PROGRAMS, EDUCATION AND ADVOCACY FOR BATTERED WOMEN AND THEIR CHILDREN.

MSP PROVIDES EMERGENCY SHELTER AND SUPPORTIVE SERVICES TO ADULTS AND THEIR DEPENDENTS WHO ARE SURVIVORS OF DOMESTIC VIOLENCE. ACCESS TO SUPPORTIVE SERVICES INCLUDES CRISIS INTERVENTION, SAFETY PLANNING, COUNSELING, CASE MANAGEMENT, CHILDREN'S PROGRAMMING, TRANSPORTATION, AND LINKAGE TO LEGAL ADVOCACY, PUBLIC BENEFITS, EMPLOYMENT AND EDUCATION SERVICES, CHILDCARE SERVICES, MENTAL AND MEDICAL HEALTHCARE, AND MANY OTHER COMMUNITY RESOURCES. IN FY19 MSP SERVED 148 SURVIVORS AT THE SHELTER, PROVIDING 13,532 BED NIGHTS, 416 MEALS, 1299 CASE MANAGEMENT AND COUNSELING SESSIONS, 256 SAFETY PLANS, 103 FINANCIAL PLANS, 188 ON-SITE PSYCHO-EDUCATION WORKSHOPS, AND 196 YOUTH ACTIVITIES. WITH THE ASSISTANCE OF MSP SOCIAL WORKERS, 38 FAMILIES TRANSITIONED TO PERMANENT OR TRANSITIONAL HOUSING AND PROVIDED 157 AFTERCARE SESSIONS TO THOSE FAMILIES.

MSP CONTINUES TO PROVIDE RENTAL ASSISTANCE TO SURVIVORS OF DOMESTIC VIOLENCE THROUGH THE TRANSITIONAL-TO-PERMANENT RISE (REACHING INDEPENDENCE THROUGH SURVIVOR EMPOWERMENT) PROGRAM. MSP WORKS CLOSELY WITH SURVIVORS TO REBUILD THEIR CREDIT, GAIN BUDGETING SKILLS, INCREASE INCOME, IDENTIFY SAFEVUNITS, ACQUIRE LEASES IN THEIR OWN NAMES, AND FACILITATE PRODUCTIVE TENANT-LANDLORD RELATIONSHIPS. SURVIVORS RECEIVE CASE MANAGEMENT AND PSYCHO-EDUCATION WORKSHOPS AND ARE OFFERED ASSISTANCE WITH FURNITURE, SUPPLIES, AND OTHER NEEDS. THIS FY19, 28 FAMILIES INCLUDING 69 CHILDREN WERE PROVIDED RENTAL SUBSIDY FOR 12 MONTHS FOR SCATTERED SITE UNITS.

MSP PROVIDES ADDITIONAL OFF-SITE SUPPORTIVE SERVICES IN THE COMMUNITY. IN PARTNERSHIP WITH DCVLP AND DASH, MSP PROVIDES COUNSELING AND CASE MANAGEMENT AT A WEEKLY HOUSING RESOURCE CLINIC FOR SURVIVORS OF DOMESTIC VIOLENCE. MSP HAS A CO-LOCATED STAFF MEMBER WITH THE DC CHILD AND FAMILY SERVICES ADMINISTRATION WHO PROVIDES CASE CONSULTATION, ASSESSMENTS, RECEIVES REFERRALS FOR THE BATTERER INTERVENTION PROGRAM CONDUCTED BY MSP. ALSO, MSP PROVIDES DV101 AND BYSTANDER INTERVENTION TRAINING TO PARTNERS AND CONDUCTS OUTREACH IN THE COMMUNITY TO SPREAD AWARENESS.
