ACCREDITATION AND EARLY LEARNING PROGRAMS - NAEYC GUIDES THE EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATION FIELD THROUGH ITS UNIFYING STANDARDS FOR PRACTICE AND TWO ACCREDITATION SYSTEMS - NAEYC ACCREDITATION OF EARLY LEARNING PROGRAMS AND NAEYC ACCREDITATION/RECOGNITION OF HIGHER EDUCATION PROGRAMS. MORE THAN 6,400 EARLY LEARNING PROGRAMS SERVING YOUNG CHILDREN HAVE EARNED NAEYC ACCREDITATION AS OF FISCAL YEAR 2020. THERE ARE ALSO MORE THAN 600 NAEYC ACCREDITED AND RECOGNIZED HIGHER EDUCATION PROGRAMS PREPARING EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATORS. IN FISCAL YEAR 2020, THESE HIGHER EDUCATION PROGRAMS REPRESENTED APPROXIMATELY 20% OF THE MARKET.
CONFERENCES AND SEMINARS - NAEYC'S ANNUAL EVENTS ARE INTEGRAL TO THE IMPACT IT HAS ON THE EARLY CHILDHOOD PROFESSION. IN FISCAL YEAR 2020, NAEYC HOSTED SUCCESSFUL MEETINGS IN NASHVILLE, TN AND A VIRTUAL INSTITUTE. NAEYC'S ANNUAL CONFERENCE (NOVEMBER) DREW MORE THAN 9,000 EARLY EDUCATION PROFESSIONALS TO NASHVILLE, TN, AS THEY GATHERED TO LEARN, CONNECT AND GROW AS A PROFESSION. THE CONFERENCE FEATURED MORE THAN 500 SESSIONS COVERING TOPICS SUCH AS CHILDREN WITH DISABILITIES/EARLY INTERVENTION, FAMILY ENGAGEMENT AND SUPPORT, SOCIAL/EMOTIONAL DEVELOPMENT, TEACHING AND INSTRUCTIONAL PRACTICES, LANGUAGE AND LITERACY, AMONGST OTHER TOPIC CATEGORIES. THE CONFERENCE ALSO FOCUSED ON THE RELEASE OF NAEYC'S NEW POSITION STATEMENT, ADVANCING EQUITY IN EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATION AND CONTINUED THE WORK AND DISCUSSION AROUND NAEYC'S POWER TO THE PROFESSION INITIATIVE. NAEYC'S PUBLIC POLICY FORUM TOOK PLACE IN LATE FEBRUARY CONVENING FOR THREE DAYS OF INFORMATIVE SESSIONS WITH EARLY CHILDHOOD POLICY EXPERTS. FINALLY, DUE TO COVID-19 NAEYC'S PROFESSIONAL LEARNING INSTITUTE WAS PIVOTED TO A VIRTUAL INSTITUTE DURING JUNE AND JULY WITH 100 FREE SESSIONS OFFERED AND OVER 265,000 CERTIFICATES OF COMPLETION EARNED.
PUBLICATIONS - NAEYC OFFERS THE EARLY CHILDHOOD FIELD CURRENT, RELEVANT, RESEARCH-BASED GUIDANCE ON PROVIDING HIGH-QUALITY EDUCATIONAL OPPORTUNITIES FOR CHILDREN FROM BIRTH THROUGH AGE 8. NAEYC PUBLISHED SIX BOOKS IN FISCAL YEAR 2020: (I) THIS IS PLAY: ENVIRONMENTS AND INTERACTIONS THAT ENGAGE INFANTS AND TODDLERS; (II) ANTI-BIAS EDUCATION FOR YOUNG CHILDREN AND OURSELVES, SECOND EDITION; (III) EACH AND EVERY CHILD: TEACHING PRESCHOOL WITH AN EQUITY LENS; (IV) FROM CHILDREN'S INTERESTS TO CHILDREN'S THINKING: USING A CYCLE OF INQUIRY TO PLAN CURRICULUM; (V) EMBRACING MATH: CULTIVATING A MINDSET FOR EXPLORING AND LEARNING; AND (VI) TRAUMA AND YOUNG CHILDREN: TEACHING STRATEGIES TO SUPPORT AND EMPOWER.NAEYC WAS AWARDED 2020 EXCEL AWARDS FOR TWO TITLES: (I) SILVER IN THE GENERAL AUDIENCE CATEGORY FOR WHERE'S THE MATH? BOOKS, GAMES, AND ROUTINES TO SPARK CHILDREN'S THINKING; AND (II) SILVER IN THE TECHNICAL CATEGORY FOR THIS IS PLAY: ENVIRONMENTS AND INTERACTIONS THAT ENGAGE INFANTS AND TODDLERS. NAEYC ALSO RECEIVED ACADEMIC CHOICE AWARDS SMART BOOK SUMMER 2020 FOR TWO BOOKS: (I) WHERE'S THE MATH? BOOKS, GAMES, AND ROUTINES TO SPARK CHILDREN'S THINKING; AND (II) THIS IS PLAY: ENVIRONMENTS AND INTERACTIONS THAT ENGAGE INFANTS AND TODDLERS.NAEYC PUBLISHED FIVE ISSUES OF TEACHING YOUNG CHILDREN AND YOUNG CHILDREN. THE FIVE ISSUES OF TEACHING YOUNG CHILDREN INCLUDED A RANGE OF TIMELY AND RESEARCH-BASED TOPICS, INCLUDING PARTNERING WITH FAMILIES, STEAM (SCIENCE, TECHNOLOGY, ENGINEERING, THE ARTS, AND MATHEMATICS) IN PRESCHOOL, TEACHING DURING THE PANDEMIC, AND USING ANTI-BIAS PRACTICES. THE FIVE ISSUES OF YOUNG CHILDREN CONTAINED CLUSTERS OF ARTICLES ADDRESSING THE FOLLOWING TOPICS: ENRICHING EDUCATION AROUND THE WORLD; STEM, STEAM, AND STREAM; GUIDANCE AND TRAUMA-INFORMED CARE; FOSTERING CONTENT KNOWLEDGE THROUGH INTEGRATION; AND USING A KNOWLEDGE-RICH CURRICULUM.NAEYC WAS AWARDED A 2020 EXCEL BRONZE AWARD FOR THE ARTICLE, "HOW DO I SEE MYSELF? HOW DO OTHERS SEE ME?: EXPLORING IDENTITY IN KINDERGARTEN," WHICH APPEARED IN THE NOVEMBER 2019 ISSUE OF YOUNG CHILDREN.
