IMPROVE THE WELL-BEING OF CHILDREN,YOUTH,& FAMILIES BY REDUCING TEEN & UNPLANNED PREGNANCIES.

SYSTEMS AND PRACTICES: OVER THE PAST YEAR, THERE HAS BEEN GREAT MOMENTUM IN ADVANCING THE PROGRAMMATIC WORK AT POWER TO DECIDE TO VARIOUS AUDIENCES NATIONALLY, INCLUDING ON COLLEGE CAMPUSES, WITH NATIONAL THOUGHT LEADERS, THROUGH OUR ONLINE INITIATIVES, AND WITH HEALTH PRACTITIONERS ACROSS THE UNITED STATES. KEY INITIATIVES INCLUDE ONE KEY QUESTION, BEDSIDER, OUR REPRODUCTIVE WELL-BEING WORK, INNOVATION NEXT, AND OUR CAMPUS SEXUAL-HEALTH PROGRAMS. ONE KEY QUESTION IS A SIMPLE AND TRANSFORMATIVE TOOL THAT FOR HEALTH PROVIDERS, SOCIAL SERVICE PROVIDERS, AND CHAMPIONS WHO SUPPORT WOMEN AGED 18-50 TO ROUTINELY ASK, "WOULD YOU LIKE TO BECOME PREGNANT IN THE NEXT YEAR?" CLINICAL AND NON-CLINICAL PROVIDERS USE THE TOOL TO START THE CONVERSATION ABOUT IF, WHEN, AND UNDER WHAT CIRCUMSTANCES PEOPLE WANT TO GET PREGNANT AND HAVE A CHILD. POWER TO DECIDE HAS THE EXCLUSIVE RIGHTS TO ALL ONE KEY QUESTION ACTIVITIES, TRAININGS, AGREEMENTS, AND LICENSES. IN 2020, POWER TO DECIDE CERTIFIED 96 NEW HEALTH CARE PROFESSIONALS; THIS INCLUDED THREE IN-PERSON TRAININGS PRIOR TO THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC, AS WELL AS THE PURCHASE OF OUR ONE KEY QUESTION ONLINE TRAINING, WHICH WAS DEVELOPED AND LAUNCHED THIS YEAR, BY HEALTH CARE PROFESSIONALS AND SYSTEMS. WE ALSO DEVELOPED A COMPANION TRAINING, PRECONCEPTION AND CONTRACEPTION PATHWAYS TO CARE; 95 PROVIDERS PURCHASED THIS TRAINING IN 2020. WE ARE AWAITING NOTIFICATION OF A GRANT PROPOSAL SUBMITTED TO THE AGENCY FOR HEALTHCARE RESEARCH AND QUALITY TO FURTHER EVALUATE ONE KEY QUESTION. POWER TO DECIDE WOULD SERVE IN CO-INVESTIGATOR ROLE ALONG WITH A PRINCIPAL INVESTIGATOR FROM ALLIANCE CHICAGO. THIS RESEARCH AIMS TO BUILD ON PREVIOUS STUDIES THAT HAVE DEMONSTRATED THE PROMISE OF ONE KEY QUESTION IN THE PRIMARY CARE SETTING. BEDSIDER IS AN ONLINE BIRTH CONTROL INTERVENTION THAT DELIVERS INFORMATION ABOUT THE FULL RANGE OF BIRTH CONTROL IN A VOICE THAT RESONATES WITH YOUNG PEOPLE THROUGH BEDSIDER.ORG AND ITS RELATED SOCIAL MEDIA CHANNELS. IT SUPPORTS PEOPLE WHO DO NOT WANT TO GET PREGNANT IN ACCESSING AND USING CONTRACEPTION. BEDSIDER REACHED NEARLY 8 MILLION UNIQUE VISITORS IN 2020. BEDSIDER ALSO INCLUDES BEDSIDER PROVIDERS AND BCBENEFITS, A CONTRACEPTIVE ACCESS FUND. BEDSIDER PROVIDERS SUPPORTS HEALTH CARE PROFESSIONALS IN DELIVERING QUALITY REPRODUCTIVE HEALTH CARE BY PROVIDING RESOURCES, TRAINING, AND CLINIC SUPPORT MATERIALS. THIS YEAR, WE DEVELOPED A NEW SERIES OF PATIENT PERSPECTIVES, HIGHLIGHTING THE LIVED EXPERIENCES OF GETTING SEXUAL AND REPRODUCTIVE HEALTH CARE. BCBENEFITS HELPS PEOPLE OVERCOME THE BARRIERS THEY FACE IN ACCESSING CONTRACEPTION. IN 2020, BCBENEFITS PROVIDED 786 PEOPLE WITH VOUCHERS TO ACCESS TO A YEAR'S WORTH OF ORAL CONTRACEPTION THROUGH TELEHEALTH SERVICES. POWER TO DECIDE WORKS WITH LEADERS AND PRACTITIONERS FROM MORE THAN 50 NATIONAL, STATE, AND LOCAL ORGANIZATIONS TO BUILD A NATIONWIDE REPRODUCTIVE WELL-BEING MOVEMENT THAT VALUES AND PROVIDES A SYSTEM OF SUPPORT WHICH MAKES IT POSSIBLE FOR EVERY PERSON-NO MATTER WHO THEY ARE OR WHERE THEY LIVE-TO HAVE THE POWER AND SERVICES TO DETERMINE IF, WHEN, AND UNDER WHAT CIRCUMSTANCES TO HAVE A CHILD, AND IN DOING SO, SUPPORT A HEALTHY START FOR THE NEXT GENERATION. IN 2020, WE USED A COMPETITIVE APPLICATION PROCESS TO SELECT 8 'PLACES' (TOWNS, COMMUNITIES, CITIES, REGIONS, ETC.), REPRESENTED BY MULTI-SECTORAL TEAMS OF THREE PEOPLE EACH, TO PARTICIPATE IN A SHARED LEARNING COLLABORATIVE, DESIGNED TO INCREASE CAPACITY TO ENGAGE IN THE NATIONWIDE REPRODUCTIVE WELL-BEING MOVEMENT. THE TEAMS ATTENDED AN IN-PERSON TRAINING IN MARCH 2020, COMPLETED BASELINE ASSESSMENTS OF THEIR 'PLACES' THROUGHOUT THE SUMMER, AND PARTICIPATED IN A VIRTUAL FALL TRAINING SERIES (DUE TO THE ONGOING COVID-19 PANDEMIC). WITH FUNDING FROM THE DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH AND HUMAN SERVICES OFFICE OF POPULATION AFFAIRS, POWER TO DECIDE LEADS THE INNOVATION NEXT ACCELERATOR PROGRAM THAT SUPPORTS TEAMS ACROSS THE COUNTRY IN APPLYING DESIGN THINKING TO DEVELOP TECHNOLOGY-BASED SOLUTIONS TO PREVENT TEEN AND UNPLANNED PREGNANCY. IN 2020, POWER TO DECIDE CONTINUED TO SUPPORT EIGHT TEAMS OF INNOVATORS WORKING TO BRING THEIR INNOVATIONS TO MARKET THROUGH THE PROVISION OF TRAINING, TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE, AND RESOURCES. WE ALSO AIM TO HELP COLLEGES ADDRESS SEXUAL HEALTH IN A SUSTAINABLE, EFFECTIVE, AND COMPREHENSIVE WAY THROUGH OUR CAMPUS SEXUAL HEALTH PROGRAM. IN 2020, POWER TO DECIDE COMPLETED A PROGRAM SERVING 12 COLLEGE CAMPUSES IN LOS ANGELES COUNTY AND NEW YORK CITY. THROUGHOUT THE YEAR, WE PROVIDED INTENSIVE TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE ON BEST PRACTICES FOR ADDRESSING CAMPUS SEXUAL HEALTH, INCLUDING CONNECTING COLLEGES TO LOW OR NO-COST PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT OPPORTUNITIES AND PROVIDING SELF-STUDY MATERIALS FOR STUDENT HEALTH CENTER STAFF ON ISSUES RELATED TO SEXUAL HEALTH. THE FUNDING FOR THIS PROGRAM WAS RENEWED IN DECEMBER 2020, WITH A SPECIFIC FOCUS ON TRAINING PRACTITIONERS WHO WORK WITH YOUTH IN FOSTER CARE TO IMPLEMENT ONE KEY QUESTION.

AT THE FEDERAL LEVEL, POWER TO DECIDE WORKED TO PROTECT THE TEEN PREGNANCY PREVENTION (TPP) PROGRAM, THE TITLE X PROGRAM, MEDICAID COVERAGE OF FAMILY PLANNING, AND NO CO-PAY COVERAGE OF BIRTH CONTROL IN THE ACA. WE ALSO WORKED TO SUCCESSFULLY REAUTHORIZE THE PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY EDUCATION PROGRAM FOR THREE YEARS AND TO INTRODUCE BIPARTISAN LEGISLATION TO REAUTHORIZE THE PREGNANCY ASSISTANCE FUND. WE ALSO WORKED TO KEEP POLICIES THAT WOULD FURTHER RESTRICT COVERAGE AND ACCESS TO ABORTION CARE OUT OF COVID RELIEF LEGISLATION. WE LAUNCHED A NEW CONTRACEPTIVE ACCESS TOOLKIT TO HIGHLIGHT STATE POLICIES THAT INCREASE CONTRACEPTIVE COVERAGE AND ACCESS, AND STATE TELEHEALTH POLICIES RELATED TO CONTRACEPTION. WE MAINTAINED A FEDERAL POLICY ACTION CENTER FOR OUR PARTNERS IN THE FIELD, ACTIVATED OUR AUDIENCES TO ENGAGE ON POLICY ISSUES. WE HAVE ALSO WORKED WITH CONGRESSIONAL ALLIES AND PARTNER ORGANIZATIONS TO INCLUDE NEW REPORT LANGUAGE IN THE NATIONAL DEFENSE AUTHORIZATION ACT FOR FY 2021 TO INSTRUCT THE DEPARTMENT OF DEFENSE TO ISSUE A REPORT ON HOW IT IS IMPLEMENTING KEY POLICIES ON COUNSELING, EDUCATION, STOCKING, AND DISPERSAL OF CONTRACEPTIVE METHODS. FINALLY, WE DEVELOPED AND WIDELY DISSEMINATED RECOMMENDATIONS FOR HOW THE ADMINISTRATION THAT TAKES OFFICE IN JANUARY 2021 COULD ADVANCE REPRODUCTIVE WELL-BEING.
