NCUIH FULFILLS ITS MISSION BY SERVING AS A RESOURCE CENTER PROVIDING ADVOCACY, EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND LEADERSHIP FOR URBAN INDIAN HEALTH CARE PROVIDERS.
TRAINING AND TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE THAT INCLUDES COMPREHENSIVE PUBLIC HEALTH PROGRAMS, TRAINING AND GUIDANCE TO 41 UIOS THROUGHOUT THE COUNTRY. PROVIDING CUSTOMIZED AND CULTURALLY SOUND CAPACITY BUILDING & KNOWLEDGE TOOLS IS ESSENTIAL TO FOSTER AND TRIGGER CHANGES NECESSARY FOR COMBATING HEALTH DISPARITIES FOR THE URBAN AI/AN COMMUNITY. LAST YEAR, MORE THAN 450 HOURS OF TRAINING AND TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE WAS PROVIDED TO THE URBAN AI/AN COMMUNITY.
OUTREACH AND EDUCATION FOR POLICYMAKERS AND THE GENERAL PUBLIC ON THE CHANGES NEEDED TO COMBAT HEALTH DISPARITIES AMONG THE URBAN AI/AN COMMUNITY. NCUIH PROVIDES TESTIMONY AND WITNESSES AT HOUSE AND SENATE HEARINGS TO REPRESENT URBAN AI/AN HEALTHCARE PRIORITIES AND ATTENDS MORE THAN 150 ADVISORY, FEDERAL AGENCY AND OTHER MEETINGS TO ADVOCATE FOR URBAN AI/AN EACH YEAR. LAST YEAR, THROUGH NCUIH'S OUTREACH AND EDUCATION FOR POLICYMAKERS, MORE THAN $100M IN ADDITIONAL FUNDING WAS ALLOCATED TO SUPPORT HEALTHCARE TO THE URBAN INDIAN POPULATION.
COMMUNICATIONS, SOCIAL MARKETING AND OUTREACH TO RAISE AWARENESS AND SHARE CULTURALLY COMPETENT RESOURCES TO THE URBAN AI/AN COMMUNITY. LAST YEAR, MORE THAN 34 EVENTS WERE HOSTED. ADDITIONALLY, A YOUTH COUNCIL WAS DEVELOPED THAT HAS HELD 3 COHORTS WITH A TOTAL OF 15 YOUNG ADULTS (18-24) PARTICIPATING TO PROVIDE PEER PREVENTION AND EDUCATION ON SUICIDE AND SUBSTANCE MISUSE FOR URBAN AI/AN YOUTH THROUGH ANNUAL CAMPAIGNS.
