TO PROVIDE A UNITED VOICE FOR PEOPLE WITH CHRONIC DISEASES AND DISABILITIES.
Member Services: NHC provided information and support to members through policy and advocacy initiatives, legislative/regulatory activities, and technical support through the following projects: Voluntary health agency (VHA) Standards of Excellence Certification program, Washington Representatives Retreat, affinity group educational webinars and meetings, Annual Revenue Survey, Annual Compensation Survey, policy action teams, involvement in research and programmatic projects and training sessions, and NHC staff participation in panels, task forces, advisory committees, and presentations in collaboration with governmental, business/industry, and health care sector organizations.
Special projects: The NHC provided leadership, research, analysis, advocacy, and support for the following major projects: the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) guidance on patient engagement; value assessment initiative; development of a Patient Engagement Rubric; PCORI-supported educational program development; and collaborations with the Pharmacy Quality Alliance, the University of Maryland Center for Patient-Value Driven Assessment, Duke University, and the National Pharmaceutical Council.
Conferences: NHC held its annual 2-day Health Leadership Conference for CEOs and membership board volunteers where relevant health issues were presented and discussed in various formats. NHC hosted its annual Science of Patient Engagement Symposium, bringing together research leaders from all membership categories and various representatives and experts from the health care field. Roundtables were convened to address effective patient engagement in drug development, value assessment, and quality of care evaluation, and included key stakeholders from patient groups, academic/research organizations, business & industry, and government agencies such as the FDA
