Organizations Filed Purposes:
TO ADVANCE THE LEGISLATIVE, CODE AND REGULATORY INTERESTS OF THE LUMBER AND BUILDING MATERIAL INDUSTRY.
THE NATIONAL LUMBER AND BUILDING MATERIAL DEALERS ASSOCIATION (NLBMDA) REPRESENTS ITS MEMBERS IN THE NATIONAL PUBLIC POLICY ARENA, WITH EMPHASIS ON EFFORTS TO 1) PROMOTE THE INDUSTRY AND EDUCATE LEGISLATORS AND PUBLIC POLICY PERSONNEL; AND 2) ASSIST LEGISLATIVE, REGULATORY, STANDARD-SETTING AND OTHER GOVERNMENT OR PRIVATE BODIES IN THE DEVELOPMENT OF LAWS, REGULATIONS AND POLICIES AFFECTING LUMBER AND BUILDING MATERIAL DEALERS, ITS CUSTOMERS AND SUPPLIERS.
GOVERNMENT AFFAIRS: NLBMDA'S PRIMARY MISSION IS TO REPRESENT THE INDUSTRY BEFORE CONGRESS, FEDERAL REGULATORS AND CODE BODIES ON ISSUES IMPACTING THE LUMBER AND BUILDING MATERIAL INDUSTRY. STAFF AND MEMBERS ADVOCATE ON BEHALF OF DEALERS FOR BUSINESS-FRIENDLY REGULATIONS THAT ARE FAIR, SIMPLE AND EFFECTIVE THROUGH FACE-TO-FACE MEETINGS AND COMMUNICATIONS WITH LEGISLATORS, REGULATORS AND CODE OFFICIALS. NLBMDA'S GOVERNMENT AFFAIRS COMMITTEES RECOMMEND POLICIES ON KEY PUBLIC POLICY ISSUES TO THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS, WHICH SETS POLICY FOR NLBMDA.
ANNUAL MEETING/INDUSTRY SUMMIT: NLBMDA'S BYLAWS PROVIDE THAT MEMBERS SHALL ELECT THE OFFICERS OF THE ASSOCIATION AT AN ANNUAL MEETING. DURING THE ANNUAL MEETING, THE MEMBERS ARE ALSO INFORMED OF THE STATUS OF THE ASSOCIATION, INCLUDING FINANCIAL AND LEGISLATIVE REPORTS. IN 2008, THE ANNUAL MEETING WAS MERGED INTO ANOTHER MEETING HELD BY AN INDUSTRY PUBLICATION, HOME CHANNEL NEWS, AND THE TWO GROUPS ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE EXHIBITS AND EDUCATIONAL CONTENT AT THE MEETING. EXPENSES AND REVENUE FOR THE MEETING ARE SPLIT EVENLY BETWEEN NLBMDA AND HOME CHANNEL NEWS IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE CONTRACT THAT OUTLINES THE RELATIONSHIP AND SHARED RESPONSIBILITIES. THE ANNUAL MEETING ALSO SERVES AS AN IMPORTANT NETWORKING VENUE FOR DEALERS AND THEIR SUPPLIERS.
LEGISLATIVE CONFERENCE: NLBMDA'S LEGISLATIVE CONFERENCE PROVIDES AN OPPORTUNITY FOR MEMBERS TO LEARN ABOUT KEY PUBLIC POLICY ISSUES IMPACTING THE INDUSTRY AND TO PARTICIPATE IN VISITS WITH THEIR ELECTED OFFICIALS ON CAPITOL HILL TO LOBBY THEM ON BEHALF OF THE INDUSTRY.
