Organizations Filed Purposes: OUR MISSION IS TO BE THE STAGE FOR THE NATION. BUILDING ON OUR 1835 FOUNDATION AND LEGACY AS A CORNERSTONE OF AMERICAN THEATRE HISTORY, WE:1.) SERVE THE COMMUNITY BY PRESENTING THE HIGHEST CALIBER PERFORMING ARTS RANGING FROM BROADWAY PRODUCTIONS TO CLASSICAL AND POPULAR ENTERTAINMENT TO AWARD-WINNING EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMMING;2.) PROMOTE METROPOLITAN WASHINGTON AS A VIBRANT CULTURAL DESTINATION; AND3.) CONTRIBUTE TO THE ECONOMIC VITALITY OF OUR NATION'S CAPITAL.

PROMOTE THE NATIONAL THEATRE IN WASHINGTON, D.C.

IN ADDITION TO THE PERFORMANCES ON THE MAINSTAGE, THE NATIONAL THEATRE CORPORATION (NTC) PRESENTS THREE COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT PROGRAMS THAT INCLUDE SATURDAY MORNING LIVE! AT THE NATIONAL, COMMUNITY STAGE CONNECTIONS, AND TEENS BEHIND THE SCENES (PREVIOUSLY CALLED THE HIGH SCHOOL TICKET PROGRAM). THE SATURDAY MORNING LIVE! PROGRAM PRESENTED 32 PERFORMANCES IN FISCAL YEAR 2020 BEFORE CLOSING DUE TO THE PANDEMIC. THESE PROGRAMS ARE FREE FOR THE AUDIENCES AND FEATURE LOCAL ARTISTS FROM MULTIPLE GENRES INCLUDING THEATRE, MUSIC, DANCE, PUPPETS, STORYTELLING, ETC. SML! RESUMED IN THE FALL OF 2020 WITH VIRTUAL PEFORMANCES. THE COMMUNITY STAGE CONNECTIONS PROGRAM PAYS A ROSTER OF LOCAL ARTISTS TO PERFORM AT LOCAL COMMUNITY ORGANIZATIONS FOR THOSE INDIVIDUALS WHO CANNOT OTHERWISE ATTEND A PERFORMANCE AT THE THEATRE DUE TO PHYSICAL OR FINANCIAL LIMITATIONS. VENUES INCLUDE SENIOR CITIZEN CENTERS, HOMELESS SHELTERS, BOYS AND GIRLS CLUBS, AND CHILDREN'S NATIONAL HOSPITAL. THESE PERFORMANCES ARE FREE FOR THE AUDIENCES. 30 PERFORMANCES WERE HELD IN THE FISCAL YEAR BETWEEN SEPTEMBER 2019 AND MARCH 2020. IN MID-MARCH, PERFORMANCES WERE CANCELED DUE TO THE PANDEMIC. CSC HAS RESUMED WITH VIRTUAL PERFORMANCES, WITH 7 HELD BETWEEN OCTOBER AND DECEMBER 2020. TEENS BEHIND THE SCENES, PREVIOUSLY NAMED THE HIGH SCHOOL TICKET PROGRAM, WELCOMES STUDENTS TO ATTEND PERFORMANCES IN THE BROADWAY AT THE NATIONAL SEASON. STUDENTS PARTICIPATE FOR FREE AND RECEIVE A STUDY GUIDE CREATED BY NTC'S DRAMATURG AND PARTICIPATE IN A DISCUSSION WITH A GUEST FROM THE PRDOUCTION AFTER THE SHOW. IN FISCAL YEAR 2020, NTC WELCOMED 92 STUDENTS TO THREE PRODUCTIONS. ANOTHER EVENT WAS SCHEDULED FOR LATE MARCH BUT WAS CANCELED DUE TO THE PANDEMIC. IN THE FALL OF 2020, NTC WORKED WITH OUR DRAMATRUG TO CREATE FIVE MICROSITES TO HIGHLIGHT THE HISTORY OF THE NATIONAL THEATRE. THREE WERE COMPLETED BY DECEMBER 2020.
