PRESERVES AND ENHANCES THE VISUAL CHARACTER AND SCENIC BEAUTY OF AMERICA AS THE ONLY NATIONAL NONPROFIT ORGANIZATION THAT HELPS CITIZENS SAFEGUARD THE SCENIC QUALITIES OF AMERICA'S ROADWAYS, COUNTRYSIDE,AND COMMUNITIES.
CHAPTER AND AFFILIATE PROGRAMS - FIGHTING BILLBOARD BLIGHT, BUILDING A NATIONAL SCENIC BEAUTY MOVEMENT, AND SUPPORTING CHAPTERS AND AFFILIATES WITH TOOLS NECESSARY TO FIGHT FOR SCENIC BEAUTY AND AGAINST THOSE WHO WOULD MAR OUR ROADWAYS. WE HAVE REPEATEDLY WON LOCAL FIGHTS TO PREVENT MASSIVE BILLBOARD PROLIFERATION, WHICH IS CONSIDERED "LITTER ON A STICK" WE ALSO HOSTED A LANDMARK SCENIC SYMPOSIUM IN WALTON COUNTY, FLORIDA ON OCTOBER 2019 THAT WAS THE BEST ATTENDED IN OUR HISTORY.
POLICY AND ADVOCACY -SCENIC AMERICA, THE NATIONAL ADVOCACY VOICE FOR SCENIC BEAUTY, SUCCESSFULLY EDUCATED THE PUBLIC AND POLICYMAKERS TO GET THE "REVIVING AMERICA'S SCENIC BYWAYS ACT OF 2019" PASSED THROUGH CONGRESS AND SIGNED BY THE PRESIDENT. THE LANDMARK LEGISLATION WILL REOPEN NOMINATIONS TO THE NATIONAL SCENIC BYWAYS PROGRAM FOR THE FIRST TIME IN 10 YEARS. WE ARE ALSO WORKING ON ISSUES RELATED TO PROTECTING TREES, MITIGATING BILLBOARD BLIGHT, UNDERGROUNDING OVERHEAD WIRES, SECURING SCENIC BYWAYS FUNDING, AND SUPPORTING GATEWAY COMMMUNITIES.
COMMUNICATIONS, RESEARCH AND YOUTH EDUCATION - SCENIC AMERICA IS THE PRIMARY NATIONAL REPRESENTATIVE OF SCENIC BEAUTY TO THE PUBLIC AND MEDIA. WE ARE ALSO HOST AND CONTINUE TO BUILD AND CURATE A CLEARINGHOUSE OF RESEARCH AND INFORMATION ON VISUAL ENVIRONMENT ISSUES ON OUR WEBSITE. THIS YEAR, WE ADDED DETAILS ON SCENIC BYWAYS IN EACH STATE. SCENIC CONSERVATION YOUTH EDUCATION IS AN IMPORTANT PRIORITY, AND WE ARE DEVELOPING A CLASSROOM -BASED CURRICULUM WHICH BUILDS UPON ON OUR ALREADY SUCCESSFUL WEB-BASED STUDENT CURRICULM VIEWFINDERS.
