Organizations Filed Purposes:
THE SENIOR CARE PHARMACY COALITION (SCPC) IS A NON-PROFIT ADVOCACY ORGANIZATION IN WASHINGTON, D.C. DEDICATED EXCLUSIVELY TO REPRESENTING THE INTERESTS OF INDEPENDENT LONG TERM CARE (LTC) PHARMACIES AND THE VULNERABLE PATIENTS THEY SERVE.
ADVOCACY: (1) SCPC PERSUADED THE FOOD AND DRUG ADMINISTRATION (FDA) THAT IT SHOULD NOT ENFORCE NEW REPACKAGING GUIDANCE AGAINST LTC FACILITIES OR PHARMACIES. ABSENT SCPC'S EFFORTS, THE AGENCY WOULD HAVE PREVENTED LTC PHARMACIES FROM PROVIDING ON-SITE EMERGENCY MEDICATIONS TO LTC FACILITIES, THREATENING THE LIFE, HEALTH AND SAFETY OF PATIENTS IN NURSING HOMES AND ASSISTED LIVING FACILITIES ACROSS THE COUNTRY. (2) SCPC DEVELOPED CONSENSUS AMONG ORGANIZATIONS REPRESENTING THE PHARMACY COMMUNITY CONCERNING PROPOSED LEGISLATION TO DEFINE "LTC PHARMACY" IN FEDERAL LAW. (3) SCPC WORKED WITH THE WHITE HOUSE, CONGRESS, THE DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH AND HUMAN SERVICES (PARTICULARLY THE THE CENTERS FOR MEDICARE AND MEDICAID SERVICES), THE AND THE FEDERAL TRADE COMMISSION ON VARIOUS ISSUES RELEVANT TO DRUG PRICES AND OUT-OF-POCKET CONSUMER EXPENSES FOR MEDICATIONS, PARTICULARLY ISSUES PERTAINING TO REIMBURSEMENT FOR LTC PHARMACIES UNDER THE MEDICARE PART D PROGRAM. (4) SCPC WORKED EXTENSIVELY WITH CONGRESS, HHS, CMS AND THE FDA TO ASSURE THAT THE UNIQUE ASPECTS OF THE LTC PATIENT POPULATION AND THE LTC PHARMACY SECTOR WOULD BE TREATED APPROPRIATELY IN LEGISLATIVE AND REGULATORY EFFORTS TO RESPOND TO THE NATION'S OPIOID CRISIS.
RESEARCH: (1) SCPC SPONSORED MULTIPLE RESEARCH AND ANALYTIC REPORTS CONCERNING DRUG PRICES AND REIMBURSEMENT RATES AND MARKET PRACTICES OF PRESCRIPTION DRUG PLANS AND PHARMACY BENEFITS MANAGERS OPERATING UNDER THE MEDICARE PART D PROGRAM. (2) SCPC FORMALLY LAUNCHED ITS DATA WAREHOUSE FOR COALITION MEMBERS. THE RESULTANT DATA BASE WILL BE USED FOR INDEPENDENT THIRD-PARTY RESEARCH FIRMS TO CONDUCT ANALYSES IN SUPPORT OF SCPC'S ADVOCACY OBJECTIVES.
MEDIA AND COMMUNICATIONS: SCPC ENGAGED ACTIVELY IN WORKING WITH NATIONAL AND TRADE MEDIA TO COMMUNICATE ITS PUBLIC POLICY CONCERNS AND SOLUTIONS THROUGH PUBLICIZING RESEARCH, PRESS RELEASES, SOCIAL MEDIA, AND PODCASTS. SCPC EXPANDED ITS ONGOING EFFORTS TO DEMONSTRATE THE VALUE PROPOSITION OF LTC PHARMACIES AND THE POLICY SOLUTIONS UNIQUE TO THE LTC PATIENT POPULATION AND LTC PHARMACIES.
