THE MISSION STATEMENT OF SOS CHILDREN'S VILLAGES DEFINES THE GENERAL FRAMEWORK, OUR MOTIVATION AND COMMITMENT TO GENUINE SOCIAL CHANGE THAT WILL BENEFIT CHILDREN AND YOUTH WORLDWIDE. SOS IS THE WORLD'S LARGEST ORGANIZATION PROTECTING ORPHANED AND ABANDONED CHILDREN, WITH AN AIM TO ENSURE THAT EVERY CHILD BELONGS TO A FAMILY AND GROWS UP WITH LOVE, RESPECT, AND SECURITY ACROSS 136 COUNTRIES, INCLUDING THE UNITED STATES.
IMPACT : 460,800 CHILDREN AND FAMILIES ARE STRONG AND STABLE BECAUSE OF OUR SOS CARE PROGRAMS. FOR GENERATIONS, WE HAVE BEEN ROOTED IN OVER 500 COMMUNITIES WITH 99.5% OF OUR WORKFORCE HIRED LOCALLY. WE ARE A TRUSTED MEMBER OF THE COMMUNITY AND UNIQUELY POSITIONED TO SUPPORT VULNERABLE FAMILIES IN OVERCOMING ADVERSITY AND STAYING TOGETHER. 395,000 CHILDREN AND ADULTS WHOSE FAMILIES WERE AT RISK OF FALLING APART RECEIVED CRITICAL FAMILY STRENGTHENING SUPPORT TO ADDRESS POVERTY, HEALTH AND DISPLACEMENT. OUR FAMILY-LIKE CARE FOR ORPHANED, ABANDONED, AND VULNERABLE CHILDREN KEEPS BIOLOGICAL SIBLINGS TOGETHER, CREATING ALOVING AND SUPPORTIVE ENVIRONMENT THAT ALLOWS THEM TO THRIVE. 267,500 CHILDREN AND YOUTH WERE PROVIDED ACCESS TO EDUCATION IN SOS KINDERGARTENS, SCHOOLS, VOCATIONAL TRAINING PROGRAMS, AND SOCIAL CENTERS. 677,960 MEDICAL SERVICES (LIFE-SAVING CARE, MEDICINE, VACCINES) WERE PROVIDED TO CHILDREN AND INDIVIDUALS IN SURROUNDING COMMUNITIES. 209,800 UNACCOMPANIED CHILDREN AND FAMILIES WERE PROTECTED AND REUNITED THROUGH EMERGENCY RESPONSE SERVICES NECESSITATED BY NATURAL DISASTERS, WAR, OR FAMINE.
EDUCATION & ADVOCACY: FOR OVER 70 YEARS, SOS CHILDREN'S VILLAGES HAS BEEN AT THE FOREFRONT OF A GLOBAL MOVEMENT IN CHILD PROTECTION, ADVOCATING FOR VULNERABLE CHILDREN WITHOUT PARENTAL CARE, OR FOR THOSE AT RISK OF LOSING IT. AT LOCAL, NATIONAL AND INTERNATIONAL LEVELS, WE SENSITIZE DECISION MAKERS TO THE RIGHTS AND NEEDS OF CHILDREN AND YOUTH IN ORDER TO BRING ABOUT IMPORTANT CHANGES IN POLICIES AND PRACTICES THAT AFFECT YOUNG LIVES. WE PROMOTE AND FACILITATE YOUTH PARTICIPATION IN THESE DECISION MAKING AND POLICY MAKING PROCESSES, AMPLIFYING THEIR VOICES AND SUPPORTING YOUNG PEOPLE IN BECOMING THEIR OWN ADVOCATES.
