ST. JOHN'S COMMUNITY SERVICES - DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA (SJCS-DC) IS A SUBSIDIARY CORPORATION OF ST. JOHN'S COMMUNITY SERVICES. THE PARENT CORPORATION IS SEPARATELY INCORPORATED IN THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA AND GOVERNED BY A VOLUNTEER BOARD OF TRUSTEES. EACH OF THE SUBSIDIARIES, INCLUDING SJCS-DC, HAS A STATE VOLUNTEER BOARD OF DIRECTORS AND IS SUPPORTED BY LOCAL LEADERSHIP, WITH ADMINISTRATIVE OFFICES LOCATED IN THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA WHERE THE SUBSIDIARY IS INCORPORATED. SJCS-DC CONTRACTS TO USE THE COPYRIGHTED NAME "ST. JOHN'S COMMUNITY SERVICES AND ACQUIRES VARIOUS ADMINISTRATIVE SUPPORT SERVICES FROM THE PARENT CORPORATION. AS A CONDITION OF THE CONTRACT, THE PARENT CORPORATION ESTABLISHES AND MONITORS SERVICE QUALITY STANDARDS THAT ARE ACCEPTED BY THE LOCAL SUBSIDIARY AS BEST PRACTICE.THE PARENT CORPORATION PROVIDES ADMINISTRATIVE SUPPORT SERVICES AND TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE TO THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA SUBSIDIARY IN THE FOLLOWING AREAS: ACCOUNTING, CASH MANAGEMENT, EVALUATION AND STRATEGIC PLANNING, COMMUNICATION AND INFORMATION DISSEMINATION, HUMAN RESOURCES, INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY, QUALITY ASSURANCE, CORPORATE COMPLIANCE AND PROGRAM DEVELOPMENT. EACH OF THESE SUPPORT SERVICES IS INDIVIDUALLY TAILORED TO MEET THE UNIQUE NEEDS OF THIS SUBSIDIARY CORPORATION AND ITS DISTINCTIVE CULTURAL AS WELL AS FINANCIAL STATUS. THESE SERVICES ASSIST SJCS-DC TO MEET THE REQUIREMENTS OF THE CONTRACTS, LAWS AND REGULATIONS UNDER WHICH IT OPERATES. SJCS-DC OPERATES UNDER ITS OWN OPERATING POLICIES AND PROCEDURES AND LOCAL LEADERSHIP. ADMINISTRATIVE SUPPORT SERVICES ARE PROVIDED BY THE PARENT CORPORATION, ST. JOHN'S COMMUNITY SERVICES, TO THE SUBSIDIARY CORPORATION, SJCS-DC, AT A LOW FIXED RATE CONSISTENT WITH NATIONAL STANDARDS.TO FURTHER THE AGENCY'S MISSION OF ADVANCING COMMUNITY SUPPORT AND OPPORTUNITIES FOR PEOPLE LIVING WITH DISABILITIES, THE PARENT CORPORATION SETS QUALITY STANDARDS CONSISTENT WITH THE MISSION THAT MUST BE MET BY THE SJCS-DC SUBSIDIARY IN THE PROVISION OF SERVICES. THOSE SERVICES MUST FOSTER INCLUSION, SELF- DIRECTION, ECONOMIC SELF-SUFFICIENCY, RELATIONSHIP DEVELOPMENT AND CHOICE. MEETING AND MAINTAINING THESE STANDARDS IS AN ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENT FOR THE CONTINUATION OF THE ADMINISTRATIVE SUPPORT CONTRACT AND USE OF THE CORPORATE NAME. THE PARENT CORPORATION ALSO PROVIDES TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE AND TRAINING TO THE SJCS-DC SUBSIDIARY CORPORATION TO FACILITATE THE ATTAINMENT OF THESE ESTABLISHED STANDARDS. PEOPLE RECEIVING SERVICES THROUGH THE ST. JOHN'S SUBSIDIARY MUST MEET LOCAL FUNDING SOURCES AND THE SUBSIDIARY'S UNIQUE ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS FOR EACH SPECIFIC SERVICE.DURING THIS FISCAL YEAR, SJCS-DC HAS BEEN ESTABLISHED POSITIVE OUTREACH AND MOVEMENT TOWARD SECURING REQUIRED AUTHORIZATIONS WITH MARYLAND FUNDERS REGARDING POTENTIAL OPPORTUNITIES FOR THE FUTURE. TYPES OF COMMUNITY SUPPORT AND OPPORTUNITIES FOR PEOPLE LIVING WITH DISABILITIES THAT SJCS-DC PROVIDED DURING THE 2019 FISCAL YEAR INCLUDED: PRE-EMPLOYMENT TRANSITION SERVICES, EMPLOYMENT SERVICES, COMMUNITY PARTICIPATION, COMMUNITY LIVING, COMPANION CARE, AND CLINICAL SERVICES.THE TOTAL NUMBER OF PEOPLE WITH DISABILITIES SUPPORTED BY SJCS-DC IN FY 2019 WAS AS FOLLOWS: - PRE-EMPLOYMENT TRANSITIONAL SERVICES (PRE-ETS) IN MARYLAND: FY19 6 STUDENTS WITH DISABILITIES IN PUBLIC SCHOOL SERVICES RECEIVE JOB EXPLORATION COUNSELING, WORK-BASED LEARNING EXPERIENCES, IN-SCHOOL AND AFTER-SCHOOL LEARNING OPPORTUNITIES, INTERNSHIPS, COUNSELING ON OPPORTUNITIES FOR ENROLLMENT IN COMPREHENSIVE TRANSITION OR POST-SECONDARY EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS, WORKPLACE READINESS TRAINING TO DEVELOP SOCIAL SKILLS AND INDEPENDENT LIVING, AND INSTRUCTION IN SELF-ADVOCACY. - EMPLOYMENT SERVICES: FY19 87 ADULTS PARTICIPATED IN JOB DEVELOPMENT, COACHING, PLACEMENT AND ON-GOING SUPPORT IN JOBS WORKING ALONGSIDE EMPLOYEES WITHOUT DISABILITIES. SERVICES ARE PROVIDED UNDER BOTH VOCATIONAL REHABILITATION AND HCBS WAIVER SERVICES - COMMUNITY PARTICIPATION: FY19 85 ADULTS PARTICIPATED IN THIS SERVICE THAT PROVIDES VOLUNTEER AND COMMUNITY EXPLORATION, SKILL DEVELOPMENT AND VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES. WE OPENED AN ARTS INFUSED PROGRAM BASED IN THE COMMUNITY DURING THE FISCAL YEAR.- COMMUNITY LIVING: FY19 77 ADULTS WERE SUPPORTED TO LIVE IN SMALL GROUP SETTINGS, HOMES AND APARTMENTS (MOST WITH ONE ROOMMATE), WHERE THEY CAN ENJOY ALL OF THE BENEFITS OF THEIR CHOSEN COMMUNITY. -COMPANION CARE: 66 INDIVIDUALS WERE PROVIDED WITH SERVICES THAT SUPPORT THE PERSON IN BEING ABLE TO PARTICIPATE IN SELF-DIRECTED HOBBIES AND RECREATIONAL ACTIVITIES.-CLINICAL SERVICES: 26 ADULTS WERE PROVIDED WITH SERVICES RANGING FROM BEHAVIORAL AND PSYCHOLOGICAL SUPPORTS, NUTRITIONAL SERVICES, AND SPEECH LANGUAGE.
