ST. JOHN'S COMMUNITY SERVICES - VIRGINIA (SJCS-VA) IS A SUBSIDIARY CORPORATION OF ST. JOHN'S COMMUNITY SERVICES. THE PARENT CORPORATION IS SEPARATELY INCORPORATED IN THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA AND GOVERNED BY A VOLUNTEER BOARD OF TRUSTEES. EACH OF THE SUBSIDIARIES, INCLUDING SJCS-VA, HAS A LOCAL STATE VOLUNTEER BOARD OF DIRECTORS AND IS SUPPORTED BY LOCAL LEADERSHIP, WITH ADMINISTRATIVE OFFICES LOCATED IN THE STATE OF VIRGINIA WHERE THE SUBSIDIARY IS INCORPORATED. SJCS-VA CONTRACTS TO USE THE COPYRIGHTED NAME "ST. JOHN'S COMMUNITY SERVICES AND ACQUIRES VARIOUS ADMINISTRATIVE SUPPORT SERVICES FROM THE PARENT CORPORATION. AS A CONDITION OF THE CONTRACT, THE PARENT CORPORATION ESTABLISHES AND MONITORS SERVICE QUALITY STANDARDS AND THE SUBSIDIARY ACCEPTS THESE SERVICE STANDARDS AS BEST PRACTICE. THE ADMINISTRATIVE SUPPORT SERVICES AND TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE THAT THE PARENT CORPORATION PROVIDES INCLUDE: ACCOUNTING, CASH MANAGEMENT, EVALUATION AND STRATEGIC PLANNING, COMMUNICATION AND INFORMATION DISSEMINATION, HUMAN RESOURCES, INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY, QUALITY ASSURANCE, CORPORATE COMPLIANCE AND PROGRAM DEVELOPMENT. EACH OF THESE SUPPORT SERVICES IS INDIVIDUALLY TAILORED TO MEET THE UNIQUE NEEDS OF THIS SUBSIDIARY CORPORATION AND ITS DISTINCTIVE CULTURAL AS WELL AS FINANCIAL STATUS. THESE SERVICES ASSIST SJCS-VA TO MEET THE REQUIREMENTS OF THE CONTRACTS, LAWS AND REGULATIONS UNDER WHICH IT OPERATES. SJCS-VA OPERATES UNDER ITS OWN OPERATING POLICIES AND PROCEDURES AND LOCAL LEADERSHIP. ADMINISTRATIVE SUPPORT SERVICES ARE PROVIDED BY THE PARENT CORPORATION, ST. JOHN'S COMMUNITY SERVICES, TO THE SUBSIDIARY CORPORATION, SJCS-VA, AT A LOW FIXED RATE CONSISTENT WITH NATIONAL STANDARDS. TO FURTHER THE AGENCY'S MISSION OF ADVANCING COMMUNITY SUPPORT AND OPPORTUNITIES FOR PEOPLE LIVING WITH DISABILITIES, THE PARENT CORPORATION SETS QUALITY STANDARDS CONSISTENT WITH THE MISSION THAT MUST BE MET BY THE SJCS-VA SUBSIDIARY IN THE PROVISION OF SERVICES. THOSE SERVICES MUST FOSTER INCLUSION, SELF-DIRECTION, ECONOMIC SELF-SUFFICIENCY, RELATIONSHIP DEVELOPMENT AND CHOICE. MEETING AND MAINTAINING THESE STANDARDS IS A REQUIREMENT FOR THE CONTINUATION OF THE ADMINISTRATIVE SUPPORT CONTRACT AND USE OF THE CORPORATE NAME. THE PARENT CORPORATION ALSO PROVIDES TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE AND TRAINING FOR THE SJCS-VA SUBSIDIARY CORPORATION TO FACILITATE THE ATTAINMENT OF THESE ESTABLISHED STANDARDS. PEOPLE RECEIVING SERVICES THROUGH THE ST. JOHN'S SUBSIDIARY MUST MEET LOCAL FUNDING SOURCES AND THE SUBSIDIARY'S UNIQUE ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS FOR EACH SPECIFIC SERVICE.TYPES OF COMMUNITY SUPPORT AND OPPORTUNITIES FOR PEOPLE LIVING WITH DISABILITIES THAT SJCS-VA PROVIDED DURING THE 2019 FISCAL YEAR INCLUDED: EMPLOYMENT SERVICES, COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT, COMMUNITY COACHING, COMMUNITY LIVING AND IN-HOME SUPPORTS.THE TOTAL NUMBER OF PEOPLE WITH DISABILITIES SUPPORTED BY SJCS-VA IN FY 2019 WAS AS FOLLOWS: - EMPLOYMENT SERVICES: FY19 22 ADULTS PARTICIPATED IN JOB DEVELOPMENT, COACHING, PLACEMENT AND ON-GOING SUPPORT IN JOBS WORKING ALONGSIDE EMPLOYEES WITHOUT DISABILITIES FOR WHICH AN INDIVIDUAL IS COMPENSATED AT OR ABOVE THE MINIMUM WAGE, BUT NOT LESS THAN THE CUSTOMARY WAGE AND LEVEL OF BENEFITS PAID BY THE EMPLOYER FOR THE SAME OR SIMILAR WORK PERFORMED BY INDIVIDUALS WITHOUT DISABILITIES. - COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT: FY19 70 ADULTS PARTICIPATED IN THIS SERVICE THAT PROVIDES VOLUNTEER AND COMMUNITY EXPLORATION, SKILL DEVELOPMENT AND VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES. COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT SUPPORTS FOSTER THE ABILITY OF PARTICIPANTS TO ACQUIRE, RETAIN, OR IMPROVE SKILLS NECESSARY TO BUILD POSITIVE SOCIAL BEHAVIOR, INTERPERSONAL COMPETENCE, GREATER INDEPENDENCE, EMPLOYABILITY AND PERSONAL CHOICE NECESSARY TO ACCESS TYPICAL ACTIVITIES AND FUNCTIONS OF COMMUNITY LIFE SUCH AS THOSE CHOSEN BY THE GENERAL POPULATION. THIS SERVICE PROVIDES A WIDE VARIETY OF OPPORTUNITIES TO FACILITATE AND BUILD RELATIONSHIPS AND NATURAL SUPPORTS IN THE COMMUNITY, WHILE UTILIZING THE COMMUNITY AS A LEARNING ENVIRONMENT. SUPPORTS AND SERVICES ARE CONDUCTED AT NATURALLY OCCURRING TIMES AND IN A VARIETY OF NATURAL SETTINGS IN WHICH THE PARTICIPANT ACTIVELY INTERACTS WITH PERSONS WITHOUT DISABILITIES (OTHER THAN THOSE PAID TO SUPPORT THE INDIVIDUAL). THE ACTIVITIES ENHANCE THE PARTICIPANT'S INVOLVEMENT WITH THE COMMUNITY AND FACILITATE THE DEVELOPMENT OF NATURAL SUPPORTS. SUPPORTS AND ACTIVITIES ARE TAILORED TO THE PARTICIPANT'S PERSON-CENTERED PLAN AND INDIVIDUAL CHOICE. - COMMUNITY COACHING: FY19 4 ADULTS PARTICIPATED IN THIS SERVICE WHO BENEFIT FROM SKILL BUILDING AND SUPPORT IN POSITIVE BEHAVIOR, RELATIONSHIP BUILDING AND SOCIAL SKILLS WHILE IN THE COMMUNITY WITH 1 TO 1 SUPPORT. GROUP DAY: FY 19 2 ADULTS PARTICIPATED IN THIS SERVICE. THEY BENEFIT FROM SKILL BUILDING OR SUPPORTS FOR THE ACQUISITION, RETENTION, OR IMPROVEMENT OF SELF-HELP, SOCIALIZATION, COMMUNITY INTEGRATION, EMPLOYABILITY AND ADAPTIVE SKILLS. THIS SERVICE PROVIDES OPPORTUNITIES FOR PEER INTERACTIONS, COMMUNITY INTEGRATION, AND ENHANCEMENT OF SOCIAL NETWORKS FOR PERSONS WHO HAVE BARRIERS IN ACCESSING COMMUNITY SERVICES AND SUPPORTS. SUPPORTS AND SERVICES ARE COORDINATED WITH PHYSICAL, OCCUPATIONAL, OR SPEECH/LANGUAGE THERAPIES LISTED IN THE PERSON-CENTERED PLAN TO ACHIEVE MAXIMUM INVOLVEMENT TO ACCESS COMMUNITY SERVICES AND SUPPORTS. - COMMUNITY LIVING: FY19 32 ADULTS WERE SUPPORTED TO LIVE IN SMALL GROUP SETTINGS (NO MORE THAN FIVE) WHERE THEY CAN ENJOY ALL OF THE BENEFITS OF THEIR CHOSEN COMMUNITY. THIS SERVICE CONSISTS OF SKILL-BUILDING, ROUTINE SUPPORTS, GENERAL SUPPORTS, AND SAFETY SUPPORTS, PROVIDED IN A LICENSED OR APPROVED RESIDENCE THAT ENABLES PERSONS SUPPORTED TO ACQUIRE, RETAIN, OR IMPROVE THE SELF-HELP, SOCIALIZATION, AND ADAPTIVE SKILLS NECESSARY TO RESIDE SUCCESSFULLY IN HOME AND COMMUNITY-BASED SETTINGS. - IN-HOME SUPPORTS: FY19 7 ADULTS WERE PROVIDED SUPPORTS IN THEIR NATURAL HOME TO MATCH THEIR INDIVIDUAL NEEDS TO REMAIN AND PARTICIPATE IN THEIR OWN HOME OR THE HOME OF A FAMILY MEMBER IN THE COMMUNITY. IN-HOME SERVICES AND SUPPORTS CONSIST OF SKILL-BUILDING, ROUTINE SUPPORTS, AND SAFETY SUPPORTS, WHERE PARTICIPANTS ACQUIRE, RETAIN, OR IMPROVE THE SELF-HELP, SOCIALIZATION, AND ADAPTIVE SKILLS NECESSARY TO RESIDE SUCCESSFULLY IN HOME AND COMMUNITY-BASED SETTINGS.
