Studio Theatre produces exceptional contemporary theatre in deliberately intimate spaces, fostering a more thoughtful, more empathetic, and more connected community, in Washington DC and beyond.
Provides an acting conservatory and theatre for the productions of various plays annually.
Every year, Studio Theatre produces at least 450 performances of 7 to 9 productions in four venues. Our ambitious new and contemporary programming encompasses a broad spectrum of perspectives and styles, aimed at developing new audiences and challenging patrons to extend the range of their theatrical experiences. Studio Theatre serves nearly 75,000 people annually and makes vital contributions to its neighborhood, city, and theatre field, nationally and internationally. We go about our work-onstage and off-with exceptional rigor, craftsmanship, and attention to design. Our commitment to connecting actors and audience is built into our architecture, where none of our four performance spaces seats more than 225 patrons.
The Studio Theatre Acting Conservatory, founded in 1975, serves roughly 500 students each year, offering rigorous and comprehensive actor training that is unparalleled among the area's nonuniversity affiliated programs. While the Conservatory trains students of all ages, the Young Actors Ensemble provides an opportunity for young people ages 13 to 17 to learn effective communication, leadership, and acting skills. The Youth OnStage scholarship program reserves 50% of student slots in the Ensemble for scholarship students, removing the barrier of cost and bringing talented young people from a variety of backgrounds together.
