THE ZINN EDUCATION PROJECT - TEACHING A PEOPLE'S HISTORY, COORDINATED WITH RETHINKING SCHOOLS, OFFERS HUNDREDS OF FREE, DOWNLOADABLE TEACHING ACTIVITIES FOR MIDDLE AND HIGH SCHOOL CLASSROOMS TO BRING PEOPLE'S HISTORY TO THE CLASSROOM. THE TEACHING ACTIVITIES AND RESOURCES ARE ORGANIZED BY THEME, TIME PERIOD AND GRADE LEVEL. THIS IS THE ONLY COLLECTION OF ITS KIND FOR EDUCATORS - PRINT OR ONLINE - IN THE COUNTRY.
TELLIN' STORIES - A FAMILY/SCHOOLS ORGANIZING PROJECT THAT HAS DEVELOPED A UNIQUE APPROACH TO BUILDING GRASSROOTS MULTIRACIAL PARENT POWER IN SCHOOLS. TELLIN' STORIES ENGAGES FAMILIES AND SCHOOL STAFF USING THE POWER OF STORY TO CONNECT PEOPLE FROM DIVERSE BACKGROUNDS, TO PASS ON VALUABLE INFORMATION AND EXPERIENCES, AND TO ORGANIZE COLLECTIVE ACTION. TELLIN' STORIES WORKS WITH PARENTS TO CREATE AND IMPLEMENT ACTION PLANS THAT AFFECT THE ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENT AND ENVIRONMENT OF NEIGHBORHOOD SCHOOLS THROUGH RELATIONSHIP BUILDING, REGULAR MEETINGS, WORKSHOPS, TRAININGS, AND GRASSROOTS ORGANIZING. IT HELPS THOSE WHO ARE TRADITIONALLY EXCLUDED FROM THE DECISION-MAKING PROCESS BECOME A CENTRAL PART OF IT: PARENTS, EDUCATORS, AND COMMUNITY MEMBERS.
DC AREA EDUCATORS FOR SOCIAL JUSTICE - TEACHING FOR CHANGE COORDINATES PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT, TEACHER STUDY GROUPS, AND OTHER ACTIVITIES TO SUPPORT SOCIAL JUSTICE EDUCATORS IN THE DC METRO AREA. INCLUDED IN THIS WORK ARE THE ANNUAL BLACK LIVES MATTER AT SCHOOL WEEK OF ACTION; TEACH THE BEAT: GO-GO IN SCHOOLS; TEACH CENTRAL AMERICA; AND COLLABORATIVE PROGRAMS WITH HOWARD UNIVERSITY, SMITHSONIAN NATIONAL MUSEUM OF THE AMERICAN INDIAN, SMITHSONIAN NATIONAL MUSEUM OF AFRICAN AMERICAN HISTORY AND CULTURE, AND OTHER INSTITUTIONS.
