Organizations Filed Purposes:
TPN IS A NON-GOVERNMENTAL NETWORK THAT PROVIDES POLITICIANS, BUSINESS, ACADEMICS AND OTHER INTERESTED PARTICIPANTS FROM BOTH SIDES OF THE ATLANTIC WITH OPPORTUNITIES TO ADDRESS BOTH CURRENT TRANSATLANTIC ISSUES AND FUTURE CHALLENGES. ITS OBJECTIVES ARE AS FOLLOWS:FIRST, TO FACILITATE CONSTRUCTIVE DIALOGUE AT A STRATEGIC LEVEL BETWEEN THE E.U. AND THE U.S. FOR ALL PARTICIPANTS OF THE NETWORK;SECOND, TO HELP THIS PARTNERSHIP ADJUST TO NEW CHALLENGES AND OPPORTUNITIES; TO IDENTIFY COMMON INTERESTS AND TO REDUCE THE SCOPE FOR MISUNDERSTANDINGS BETWEEN THE TRANSATLANTIC PARTNERS, AND TO PROMOTE COOPERATION BETWEEN E.U. AND U.S. GOVERNMENTS;THIRD, TO ACT AS A COMMUNICATIONS MECHANISM FOR IDEAS ON POLICY ISSUES. WHEREVER POSSIBLE, TPN WORKS WITH ESTABLISHED ORGANIZATIONS AND INSTITUTIONS, AVOIDING DUPLICATION AND ENHANCING SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES.
EDUCATIONAL ROUNDTABLE EVENTS:TO ENABLE THE NETWORK TO FUNCTION EFFECTIVELY, AND TO ACHIEVE THE OBJECTIVES OUTLINED ABOVE, THE CORE OF THE ACTIVITIES ARE CENTERED ROUND EDUCATIONAL ROUNDTABLE EVENTS HELD ON BOTH SIDES OF THE ATLANTIC, IN BRUSSELS AS WELL AS WASHINGTON DC. THESE ROUNDTABLES CONVENE A LIMITED NUMBER OF PARTICIPANTS BETWEEN 25 AND 30 PEOPLE FOCUSING ON CURRENT AS WELL AS FUTURE THEMES AND ISSUES IN US-EU RELATIONS. THEY SERVE AS A FORUM FOR CONTINUOUS DIALOGUE ON TRANSATLANTIC RELATIONS AMONG THE DIVERSE GROUP OF PARTICIPANTS OUTLINED ABOVE.THE ROUNDTABLE FORMAT ALLOWS THE NETWORK TO RESPOND IN A MORE FLEXIBLE MANNER TO NEW AND EMERGING ISSUES IN US-EU RELATIONS OR TOPICS OUTSIDE THE MAIN FOCUS AS THESE TYPES OF EVENTS ARE MORE EASILY ORGANIZED, REQUIRE SHORT LEAD TIMES AND BRING TOGETHER CORE COMMUNITIES OF THOSE INTERESTED IN THE SUBJECT AT HAND. WHERE POSSIBLE, THE ROUNDTABLES SEEK TO TAKE ADVANTAGE OF OPPORTUNITIES CREATED BY VISITS TO WASHINGTON DC FROM EU OFFICIALS OR MEMBERS OF THE EUROPEAN PARLIAMENT AND INCLUDE THEM IN EVENTS AS SPEAKERS AND/OR PARTICIPANTS. CONVERSELY, VISITING US OFFICIALS AND US MEMBERS OF CONGRESS PARTICIPATE IN ROUNDTABLE EVENTS IN BRUSSELS.THESE ROUNDTABLES PREPARE THE GROUND FOR DISCUSSIONS AT A SERIES OF EVENTS ORGANIZED IN WASHINGTON DC KNOWN AS TRANSATLANTIC WEEK AND ALSO SERVE AS FOLLOW-UP EVENTS FOCUSING ON SPECIFIC ASPECTS RAISED AT THE MAIN EVENT ITSELF. TOGETHER, TPN EVENTS HELP TO ACHIEVE A MULTIPLYING EFFECT FOR THE IDEAS DISCUSSED, OFFER OPPORTUNITIES FOR REGULAR DIALOGUE AMONG PARTICIPANTS, ACHIEVE AN UP-TO-DATE AGENDA AND HELP MAINTAIN A HIGHER PROFILE FOR US-EU COOPERATION THROUGHOUT THE YEAR. IN SHORT, TPN'S ACTIVITIES ARE MUTUALLY REINFORCING. IT WAS NOT POSSIBLE TO HOLD THE 2019 TRANSATLANTIC WEEK BECAUSE OF THE ELECTIONS FOR THE EUROPEAN PARLIAMENT WHICH WERE HELD IN ALL EUROPEAN UNION MEMBER STATES. INSTEAD AND TO KEEP UP MOMENTUM FOR ITS ACTIVITIES, TPN ORGANIZED A VISIT TO WASHINGTON DC FOR KEY STAKEHOLDERS FROM THE BUSINESS COMMUNITY, ACADEMIA AND HIGH-LEVEL STAFFERS FROM THE EUROPEAN PARLIAMENT. THE 3-DAY PROGRAM INCLUDED MEETINGS AND BRIEFINGS WITH MEMBERS OF CONGRESS, THE US ADMINISTRATION, THE PRESS AS WELL AS THINK TANKS.

THESE THINK PIECES BROUGHT TOGETHER LEGISLATORS AND STAKEHOLDERS FROM BUSINESS, ACADEMIA, AND CIVIL SOCIETY ON BOTH SIDES OF THE ATLANTIC AND ARE PLAYING A KEY ROLE IN DRIVING OUR PROGRAM FORWARD IN THIS AREA. CONSULTATION:THE THINK PIECES ARE AVAILABLE FOR OUR NETWORK MEMBERS TO COMMENT ON AND SPECIFICALLY ASK THEM THE FOLLOWING QUESTIONS: - WHAT ARE THE KEY INSIGHTS FROM THE THINK PIECE PAPER WHICH RESONATED THE MOST? - IS THERE ANY ADDITIONAL THINKING THAT YOU WOULD LIKE TO ADD TO THE ANALYSIS PROVIDED IN THE PAPER? - WHAT IDEAS DO YOU HAVE FOR RENEWING THE TRANSATLANTIC PARTNERSHIP AND AGENDA IN THIS PARTICULAR AREA?INTERIM REPORT:BASED ON THE FEEDBACK FROM OUR NETWORK MEMBERS AND PARTICIPANTS TO OUR ROUNDTABLE SEMINARS AND DIALOGUE MEETINGS, AN INTERIM REPORT WILL BE PUBLISHED SETTING OUT THE INITIAL THINKING ON THE JOINTLY ACTIONABLE, SHORT AND LONG TERM, OBJECTIVES FOR THE TRANSATLANTIC PARTNERSHIP IN EACH OF THE AREAS. THIS WILL BE USED TO HELP SHAPE THE THINKING OF THE US AND EU ADMINISTRATIONS.
