Organizations Filed Purposes: To restore and maintain 13 acres of historic landscape.

In 2019, Tregaron Conservancy focused on restoring, rehabilitating and maintaining its historic landscape, based on landscape architect Ellen Biddle Shipman's original vision for the property. The Conservancy's landscape work in 2019 included the following: restoring and stabilizing historic stone features; maintaining and improving trails; planting predominantly-native trees, shrubs, flowers and ground cover in new Ellen Biddle Shipman-inspired wild gardens; clearing vines and invasive species; adding new storm-water management features. Working with a renowned meadow designer, the Conservancy continued to implement its multi-year native grass and wildflower meadows project. The Conservancy also continued to analyze the health and condition of its trees, and its arborist and maintenance crew performed extensive tree care and pruning work. The Conservancy continued to work with the District of Columbia Historic Preservation Office in interpreting and recapturing historic landscape designs. All of the Conservancy's maintenance work was performed under staff supervision and pursuant to an annual maintenance calendar. During the summer, the Conservancy hosted middle school-aged campers from Horizons at Maret, a summer enrichment camp for under-resourced students. Throughout the year, Conservancy hosted students for recreation by our Lily Pond, hiking, outdoor education, art projects, and volunteer work.Hundreds of people from the Washington DC community attended the Conservancy's free events in 2019. The Conservancy hosted tours, expert-led bird walks, an arborist walk, lectures and other educational events, partnering with or hosting community organizations and businesses. The Conservancy expanded its volunteer corps and hosted volunteer clean-up and planting days, as well as other community-building events such as our annual Easter egg hunt. The Conservancy also continued to make improvements to its trail signage, printed materials and digital communications.
