Project See Again This project aims to restore sight to cataract patients in Vietnam. These are poor people who cannot afford 35 to pay for a cataract implant surgery. In fiscal year 2019-2020, we financially supported for 3,077 eye surgeries, each cost 35.
Open Educational Resource OER Program Our OER Program continues to be a resounding success. The number of unique users who contribute research and download materials at the website http//voer.edu.vn is 50,000 to 80,000 per day 25-100 increase compared to the year 2014. In peak period, this number can reach 100,000 users. To accommodate the rising crowd of users, we have been developing further user-needed functions for our Hanoi Spring software and maintaining strong hardware with 5 servers at our data center. We have been in collaboration with STEM Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics Association in Vietnam and VEF Alumni to establish a support program of the teaching and learning of STEM for teachers and students from kindergarten to high school.
Programs for the Blind a Sun Flower College Scholarship--provides tuition scholarships to blind students for colleges and universities in Ho Chi Minh City. Supported 48 this year, most from poor families. Graduates are leading giving productive lives across Vietnam. b Laptops for Students To invest further in their education, we have awarded laptops to first-year students. This important tool helps the students in their study, research and outreach to the world. Our limited financial resources did not allow us to provide more laptops to the students, but now with the invention of the 360 Machine laptop without screens, we will be able to give every scholarship recipient a special laptop computer without a screen suitable for their needs. This year, 13 students were awarded the 360 Machines. We also provide the recipients a short course on how to use these specialized laptops.
