Organizations Filed Purposes: THE WOMEN'S COLLECTIVE (THE ORGANIZATION) IS A LEADING COMMUNITY HEALTH AND HUMAN SERVICE AGENCY IN WASHINGTON, D.C. PROVIDING CULTURALLY-COMPETENT, GIRL- AND WOMAN-FOCUSED, FAMILY-CENTERED HIV/STD PREVENTION, EDUCATION, CARE, SUPPORT, AND ADVOCACY SERVICES. OUR MISSION IS TO EMPOWER WOMEN, GIRLS, AND THEIR FAMILIES BY PROVIDING THEM WITH THE SKILLS AND LINKAGES TO MEET THEIR SELF-DEFINED NEEDS, INCREASE THEIR ACCESS TO CARE AND SUPPORT, AND ENGAGE THEM SO THAT THEY ARE BEST EQUIPPED TO 'OWN' THEIR HEALTH OUTCOMES, IMPROVE THEIR QUALITY OF LIFE, AND PROTECT THEIR RIGHTS.AS THE ONLY WOMEN- AND GIRL-SERVING AGENCY IN THE AREA, WE ARE SKILLED AT SERVICE PROVISION TO LOW INCOME, DISADVANTAGED AND MARGINALIZED WOMEN AND GIRLS' AGES 12 AND OLDER ACROSS ALL WARDS OF THE DISTRICT. THE ORGANIZATION GREW OUT OF THE LIFE EXPERIENCE OF THE FOUNDER/EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR, PATRICIA NALLS, A WOMAN LIVING WITH HIV/AIDS WHO USED HER PERSONAL STORY TO CREATE THIS UNIQUE ORGANIZATION AND MODEL OF CARE.

THE ORGANIZATION OFFERS SERVICES TO WOMEN IN THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA WHO ARE INFECTED AND AFFECTED BY HIV/AIDS.

HIV CARE MANAGEMENT - A COMPREHENSIVE FAMILY-CENTERED PROGRAM THAT PROVIDES PEER SUPPORT, CREATES CONNECTIONS BETWEEN CARE SEEKERS AND CAREGIVERS, AND PROMOTES THE PARTICIPATION AND EMPOWERMENT OF WOMEN, THEIR FAMILIES, AND MEMBERS OF THEIR SELF-DEFINED SUPPORT NETWORK IN DEVELOPING CARE PLANS BASED ON THEIR SELF-DEFINED NEEDS. THIS PROGRAM CURRENTLY SERVES OVER 400 WOMEN AND 300 OF THEIR FAMILY MEMBERS.

HIV/STD PREVENTION - THE WOMEN'S COLLECTIVE HIV/STD PREVENTION PROGRAM OFFERS A RANGE OF PREVENTION SERVICES FOR GIRLS AND WOMEN LIVING WITH AND AT RISK FOR HIV/AIDS AND OTHER SEXUALLY TRANSMITTED DISEASES. INCORPORATED IN THE PREVENTION DEPARTMENT IS ATTENTION TO CO-OCCURRING ISSUES, SUCH AS TRAUMA, INTERPERSONAL VIOLENCE, DIABETES, CANCER, ETC. FAMILIES ARE ALSO INTEGRATED INTO THIS PROGRAM MODEL. OUR PREVENTION PROGRAMS USE PEER-BASED, FEMALE-FOCUSED, FAMILY-CENTERED, AND CULTURALLY-APPROPRIATE STRATEGIES TO ADDRESS WOMEN'S HEALTH NEEDS, FAMILY ISSUES/CHALLENGES, AND RISK REDUCTION ASSISTANCE THROUGH A BROAD RANGE OF PROGRAMMATIC INITIATIVES.
