CANOPY LIFE INTERNATIONAL'S PURPOSE IS TO OPEN SCHOOLS ABROAD WITH A PARTICULAR FOCUS ON INNOVATION AND LEADERSHIP. THE MISSION IS TO ADOPT A CURRICULUM THAT FOCUSES ON BUILDING A COUNTRY'S NEXT GENERATION OF LEADERS. WE DO THIS THROUGH QUALITY EDUCATION, INTENTIONAL RELATIONSHIPS AND ENVIRONMENTS THAT SPARK THE IMAGINATION. SPECIFICALLY, WE ARE INTEGRATING DESIGN THINKING INTO THE NATIONAL KENYAN CURRICULUM, ADJUSTING THE TEACHING MODEL TO PROMOTE CRITICAL THINKING AMONGST THE STUDENTS, AND EXPOSING THEM TO THE ARTS AND OTHER WORLDVIEW EXPERIENCES OTHERWISE UNREACHABLE TO STUDENTS OF THEIR ECONOMIC POSITION. WE ARE ALSO A CHRISTIAN SCHOOL, STANDING FIRMLY ON THE VALUES OF FAITH, FAMILY AND JESUS CHRIST TO GUIDE OUR STUDENTS INTO STRONG CHARACTER AND PURPOSE.
DUE TO THE IMPACT OF COVID 19 ON THE GLOBE, SCHOOL WAS DISMISSED IN KENYA FOR MOST OF 2020 (FROM APRIL TO OCTOBER). OUR TEAM RESPONDED QUICKLY BY PURCHASING DATA TABLETS AND PREPARING RESOURCE TUBS FOR OUR STUDENTS SO THEY COULD LEARN VIRTUALLY. FOR SEVERAL MONTHS, WHILE NAIROBI WAS ON LOCK DOWN AND STAFF UNABLE TO LEAVE THE CITY, STUDENTS LEARNED VIRTUALLY THROUGH WHATS APP, GOOGLE CLASSROOM, AND ZOOM. ONCE NAIROBI REOPENED, THE INNOVATION PROGRAM AND HOMELIFE PROGRAM BEGAN CONDUCTING WORKSHOPS IN THE STUDENT VILLAGES TO CONTINUE THOSE PROGRAMS. SCHOOLS WERE PERMITTED TO REOPEN IN OCTOBER 2020 AT WHICH POINT OUR RESIDENTIAL, INNOVATION, ACADEMIC AND SPIRITUAL PROGRAMS CONTINUED AS PLANNED. 1.JANUARY/FEBRUARY 2020 - TOOK OCCUPATION OF A NEW 4 CLASSROOM ACADEMIC FACILITY, PURCHASED A VEHICLE FOR THE CAMPUS, CONDUCTED MEDICAL TRAINING WITH STAFF AND HOSTED A SMALL TEAM ON CAMPUS. 2.MARCH - SEPTEMBER 2020 - PIVOTED TO CONTINUE EDUCATION VIRTUALLY AND VIA VILLAGE WORKSHOPS WHILE MOST OF KENYA'S STUDENTS WERE NOT ENGAGING. 3.DECEMBER 2020 - AFTER 3 YEARS OF PERSISTENCE, POWER WAS INSTALLED ON THE KENYA CAMPUS, FOLLOWED BY WIFI AND A WATER TREATMENT MECHANISM IN THE SEPTIC. THIS WILL GREATLY IMPROVE THE QUALITY OF LIFE FOR THE RESIDENTIAL PROGRAM, THE QUALITY OF EDUCATION FOR THE ACADEMIC AND INNOVATION PROGRAMS.
