Organizations Filed Purposes:
Affordable Housing Program: Athens Land Trust provides quality, affordable housing to low-to-moderate income residents of Athens-Clarke County, Georgia by construction of new homes and renovation of existing homes. The program produces energy efficient homes that remain affordable by the use of ground leases agreements and the Community Land Trust model. In 2019, 4 homes were sold to first time homebuyers, construction was completed on 2 new homes and 2 additional new homes are under construction. At the end of 2019, 14 homes were under lease purchase agreements and 6 affordable rental units were occupied by local families. ALT also offers the Young Urban Builders (YUB) Program which provides job skills training and education centered around residential construction and renovation to youth in Athens-Clarke County. In 2019, ALT served 9 youth through the YUB program. Continued on Schedule O
ALTs Community Agriculture Program strives to support healthy, vibrant communities by developing a sustainable local food system, strengthening the local economy at the neighborhood level, and building knowledge of local food issues and the benefits of eating fresh, local produce. In 2019, 80 micro-entrepreneur opportunities were started, supported or received business development assistance. The Farmers Network grew and provided farm business planning and technical assistance to 53 beginning and socially disadvantaged farmers. ALT ran produce stands in 12 locations and over 729 volunteer hours were devoted to garden development and maintenance within the Community Garden Network. There were 33 weekly markets held with 438 vendors and 4700 attendees where $1902 SNAP (EBT) dollars were spent on fresh produce which we doubled with the support of our partnership with Wholesome Wave Georgia for a total of $1901 in SNAP sales.
