Organizations Filed Purposes:
Helping the community to cope with mental health and substance abuse issues to better the community as a whole.
Provide recovery supports to individuals and families in the communit y recovered seeking recovery from substance use and mental health
Initiated 4 programs: Individual check-in: individuals with substance use challenges will have a one on one recovery-oriented meeting with a recovery coach who is a Certified Addiction Recovery Empowerment Specialist (CARES) who also has lived experience with substance abuse challenges and/or the criminal justice system. Group check-ins: Same as one on one check-ins, structured to accommodate a group. Grou ps are facilitated by a recovery coach or outreach coordinator. Trauma Group: Facilitated by a recovery coach who is CARES and has trauma inf ormed training. The group addresses trauma related issues within indiv iduals in a group setting. Athens Reentry Collaborative: The collabora tive consists of helping the incarcerated re-enter the community.
Services rendered off-site: Recovery support services and groups groups offered at: The Homeless Day Center, Womens Services. Athens Diversion Center, Athens Day Report Center and the Recovery oriented legislation advocacy each year at the Addiction Recovery Awareness Day (ARAD) at the State Capitol. PLR lost partial funding around April of 2019. At this time,$23,000.00 was spent on a new office and renovations. After this expenditure, the remaining funds were spent on office (bills, dues and salaries). Prior to this, PLR assisted individuals with obtaining identification, admission fees to in-house treatment programs, work clothes and boots. PLR has a food pantry, clothing closet, and host free wellness events, i.e. HIV and Hep C testing. PLR also allows the following orgs/program s to use its facilities: Narcotics Anonymous, Free Salsa dance class hosted by a Hispanic organization, Mens Mentor Group and Athens Drug Court Alumni Group. PLR serves an average of 985 people per month.
