Organizations Filed Purposes:
To provide enhancements to the Atlanta-Fulton County Library System that are beyond the reach of taxpayer dollars through fundraising and advocacy for library programs and materials.
The Atlanta-Fulton Public Library Foundation's primary purposes are to raise money to fund programs and services offered by the Library System that tax money does not cover, and to advocate for library users. Our goal is literacy for everyone - infants, children, and adults. We believe the ability to read well is a necessity to which everyone is entitled. We plan to support financially the Adult Literacy Program so that its services can be offered to any adult who wishes to improve his or her reading skills. THe program includes coaching and materials. Fox Mini-grant awards are made to Library System employees who are named winners in the Annual Fox Mini-Grant Awards selection process.
Grady Hospital NICU along with the library foundation provided literacy resources and training that extends beyond the hospital and into communities through resources and programs at the library. It is noted that 162 families participated, 1300 books were distributed and 63 Fulton County Library gifts were given.
We fund the Library System's Summer Reading Program in June and July of every year. We pay for books, speakers, and prizes. This very successful program, which provides school-aged children the opportunity to maintain their yearly academic gains. The program reached 21,953 children in person and 11,556 online. This was done with half of the branches closed for renovations. The online program has gained great popularity as well.
