Improve animal welfare in the southeastern United States by providing quality animal services.
SHELTER SERVICES - During our fiscal year which ended September 30th, 2020, the Atlanta Humane Society provided essential care for over 41,000 animals. While the onset of the pandemic forced us to temporarily close our shelters, we quickly adapted - moving hundreds of shelter animals into foster homes and creating new programs with innovative methods of safe service delivery. Our Food Assistance Program provided pet owners and other animal shelters with 98 tons of pet food. This reflects an intentional shift to provide more mission work and humane support to animals outside of our shelter walls.
VETERINARY CENTER - Atlanta Humane Society operates a charitable veterinary hospital that provides our community with access to affordable, transparently priced services that address all essential aspects of a pet's health. From preventative wellness and spay/neuter, to heartworm treatment and dental surgery, the Veterinary Center provided over 7,000 pets with affordable medical care throughout the fiscal year ending on September 30th, 2020.
COMMUNITY AND EDUCATION SERVICES - Atlanta Humane Society provided a wide variety of humane education initiatives over the past year. These programs focus on the proper care and treatment of animals, the work performed by the Atlanta Humane Society as well as the importance of programs such as spay/neuter in ending animal homelessness. During COVID stay-at-home orders this Spring, Atlanta Humane Society leveraged available technology to create a free tele-health hotline that allowed pet owners to speak to an AHS veterinarian or trainer about their pet's medical or behavioral concern. Atlanta Humane Society also strives to increase public awareness for the humane treatment of animals through multiple communication channels including an annual telethon event.
