Create and support 1:1 mentoring relationships that ignite the power and promise of youth.

Our Community-Based Mentoring program is implemented following the Big Brothers Big Sisters model, which includes thorough screening and training of volunteers, in-depth interviews with children and parents, and professional support for the duration of the match. Research has shown that one-to-one mentoring can have a profound and lasting effect on young people, often changing the trajectories of their lives. In 2020, 87% of youth in our program were from low-income households, 79% qualified for free or reduced lunch, 69% lived in single-parent households, and 39% had one or more parents who have been incarcerated. We also serve children who come from homes where Spanish is the primary language. We served 1,020 matches and made 161 new matches in this program in 2020. (continued under Supplemental Information to Form 990)Big Futures is an important enhancement to our mentoring program, offering enrichment activities, workshops and resources for youth in grades 8-12 that focus on college and career awareness, preparation and readiness. In 2020, we made adjustments to the program to incorporate more options for young people who may need alternatives to traditional college. Our goal with Big Futures is to raise awareness of all the options available to young people, including technical/trade schools, college and the military. We have a proven track record of positive academic outcomes for the young people we serve. We are very proud of the outcomes the children and youth in our 1:1 mentoring program are able to achieve, at school and in the community. In 2020: " 99% were promoted to the next grade on time" 99% did not become involved in the juvenile justice system" 90% of high school seniors graduated on time" 95% of graduating seniors reported plans to pursue post-secondary education or the military

Our Site Based Mentoring program is a collaboration between corporations and community volunteers and individual schools to match children in one-to-one mentoring relationships. Under this program there are two models: School-based, in which volunteers and children meet twice a month at the child's school; and Workplace Mentoring, in which youth meet with their mentors twice a month at the mentor's workplace. Both models focus on supporting academic success and social-emotional development, and follow grade-specific curricula during the course of the school year. Workplace mentoring has an additional focus on exposure to different careers, improvement in employability skills, and experience in the workplace. We served 130 matches and made 43 new matches in this program in 2020.
